St Johns Community Health is Hiring a Corporate Paralegal Near Los Angeles, CA

Reports directly to the Chief HR, Legal and Compliance Officer (CHLCO):

The Corporate Paralegal provides support on all aspects of legal matters handled by the department, which may include: 1) support on all phases of litigation (including pre-litigation and arbitrations), 2) transactional support (including support on contractual documents and agreements), and regulatory matters.

The Corporate Paralegal researches and analyzes law, investigates facts, conducts, and coordinates document collections, and prepares and maintains legal documents for review, approval, and use. In carrying out these duties, the Corporate Paralegal will communicate with various intra-company departments and external contacts (including outside counsel), prepare business correspondence and reports, and assist with the organization and maintenance of Company documents and department files.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Must have excellent interpersonal skills and empathy towards patients, as well as have excellent communication skills, critical thinking skills, the ability to handle stressful situations, the capacity to function independently, have a varied clinical experience, and the ability to document meticulously.

  • A minimum of 5 years of paralegal experience, with a focus on healthcare litigation and contracts. 
  • A minimum of 5 years of managing administrative functions and office assistance. 
  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited university. A certificate from an ABA-approved paralegal program is desirable.
  • Experience in healthcare law, corporate litigation, transactions, industry is a plus.
  • Proficiency in using a legal case management software.
  • Strong understanding of legal terminology, state and federal court procedures, and corporate governance.
  • Excellent research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, work well under pressure, and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High level of professionalism and confidentiality.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES

Performs a combination, but not necessarily all, of the following duties:

  • Assist CHLCO with all aspects of corporate transactions and litigation, including preparing legal documents and managing case files.
  • Ensure all contracts are current and compliant.
  • Assist with document preparation, document review, record-keeping, and file management.
  • Collaborate with outside counsel, operating companies, registered agents, and service providers.
  • Prepare and file documents, amendments, annual reports, legalization, etc.
  • Prepare spreadsheets, files, organization charts, loss runs, etc.
  • Maintain internal tracking and reporting of entity and/or transaction related information.
  • Respond to standard corporate operating documents and procedures.
  • Review, revise, and draft contracts, memorandums of understanding. BAA agreements, NDA, etc.
  • Research, monitor, update and maintain current knowledge of developments in federal and state legislation, rules, regulations and industry guidelines.
  • Assist compliance team with submission of FTCA, OSV preparation and any other regulated audits – both internal and external.
  • Assist HR department with compliance issues.
  • Respond to request for information and discovery.
  • Assist with ethics and compliance programs.
  • Perform legal research.
  • Facilitate policy and procedures review to maintain compliance with regulatory agencies.
  • Act as liaison among various internal departments, as well as with outside agencies.
  • Other duties as assigned.
