Church Engagement Coordinator

St. John United Church of Christ

Overview:

St. John UCC is seeking a dynamic individual who can inject new energy and ideas about how to engage both current and new members of the congregation to help the church grow and thrive. They will make members and volunteers feel that what they do adds value, helps fulfill the mission, and makes a difference. This is an ideal role for someone with development and program management experience ready to apply their skills to drive church growth and transformation.

Direct Supervisor:

The Engagement Coordinator reports directly to the Senior Pastor, who will provide on-boarding and periodic evaluations (30-day, 90-day, and annually thereafter).

Rate: $25 / hour

Hours: 25-30 hours / week initially, with potential for full time based on program growth.

Vacation: Up to four (4) weeks paid vacation per year, prorated based on hours worked.

Major Responsibilities:

Energize Participation

  • Conduct calls to congregation members to identify opportunities for members to serve and engage; must be willing to do cold-calling.
  • Act as the primary contact for new members and prospects to ensure they are engaged; ‘Give them a job, give them a friend’.
  • Create / maintain a database to record the interests, skills, and spiritual gifts of staff and members of the congregation.
  • Actively reach out to prospects and potential partners outside of St. John, with particular focus on driving increased youth engagement and bringing new families into St. John.
  • Train group leaders to electronically track attendance at all events through the church database to provide a better snapshot of how congregants are engaged.

Congregational Care

  • Work with the Ministers of Visitation to identify when non-staff supports are needed (i.e., neighbor/friend check-in between pastoral visits, meal drop-offs, etc.) and work within existing committee structures to achieve them.
  • Work with Church Council to ask committees “what can we do so that more people can engage?”
  • Find ways to connect with our college students.

Financial Sustainability

  • Drive metrics development and tracking for events/programs to enable better decision-making and allocation of funds.
  • Assist Church Council and the Building and Grounds Committee in creating a wider pool of volunteers to assist with projects around the church, and to create workdays at the start of the program year, and before Easter and Christmas.
  • Identify volunteer(s) who will actively promote our space for community use.

Project Management

Partner with the Senior Pastor and other staff to implement YES Sundays, Discovery Groups, Contemporary Worship Services, and other programs.

General

Understand and appreciate the unique heritage and practices of the United Church of Christ.
