About St. HOPE

Established in 1989, St. HOPE began as an after-school program founded by former Mayor Kevin Johnson, who grew up in Oak Park and returned to his native Sacramento after retiring from the NBA. In 2003, Sacramento High School was facing state intervention as student performance was dropping year after year. That year, St. HOPE proposed reopening the school as a charter, along with the opening of PS7, a Kindergarten through 8th grade school that would feed into Sacramento Charter High School. 

St. HOPE has operated St. HOPE Public Schools since 2003 with the mission of graduating self-motivated, industrious and critical thinking leaders who are committed to serving others, passionate about lifelong learning and prepared to earn a degree from a four-year college. 

We are proud to say last school year, 96% percent of Sac High’s seniors were accepted to a four-year college and that both PS7 and Sacramento Charter High School boasted some of the most outstanding standardized test-scores in the City! One of our many highlights include our 3rd graders performing higher than any school in Sac City Unified School District with 89% of our 3rd grade scholars meeting or exceeding on their Math CAASPP. This is compared to the district average of 39%. At St. HOPE Public schools we believe in the power of the classroom teacher and know that having three years in a row of excellent teaching can overcome the average achievement deficit between low-income scholars and others. We consistently ground ourselves in this belief and prioritize collaboration so that we are building upon scholar success year after year. In addition, we offer every teacher a robust coaching and support plan in order to develop our teachers into the best possible educators. At PS7 Middle School, our results highlight the power of three years of good teaching. Our 6th graders enter our system with only 9% of our scholars on or above grade level in math compared to the district average of 25%. Then after spending three years at PS7 Middle that same group of scholars promotes from 8th grade with 48% of scholars on or above grade level in math compared to the district average of 32%. This same trend is evident in English Language Arts with our 6th graders entering our system with 25% on or above grade level and promoting from 8th grade with 57% on or above grade level compared to the district average of 43%. In addition to prioritizing academic achievement, we prioritize school culture hosting several engaging scholar and family events throughout the school year. In order to provide a well-rounded experience for our scholars, our elementary scholars attend three different elective courses - music, art and PE! This is far above what traditional elementary schools offer and provide our scholars with diverse learning experiences and our teachers with additional prep time!

In conjunction with education, St. HOPE also stands for economic growth in the Oak Park neighborhood to ensure that it’s schools are not just islands of excellence. In 30 years St. HOPE has created an estimated economic impact of $89 million in Oak Park and more than $401.7 million in the greater Sacramento area.

One of St. HOPE’s most prized development projects in Oak Park is the 40 Acres Art and Cultural Center on Broadway, unveiled in 2003. The project involved refurbishing the old Guild Theater and Woodruff Hotel buildings at 35th Street and Broadway, a complex that had long been vacant. 40 Acres currently includes the Guild Theater, Underground Books, Old Soul Co., twelve loft apartments, and it’s newest addition, Fixins Soul Kitchen.

Position Summary

St. HOPE Public Schools is committed to hiring a team of highly qualified teachers and staff who are not only subject matter experts and effective instructors, but who are also committed to mission, culture and expectations set forth by the organization. This belief set for the position described below is specifically important for driving results for our special education population and department.

TheSpecial Education Intervention Coordinator reports to the Dean of Culture and Instruction-Inclusion/Special Education.

Responsibilities Include: 

  • Oversees comprehensive implementation of the SST process across grades TK-12. Including, but not limited to, scheduling SST meetings, sending SST meeting notices, sending SST input surveys/forms to parents/teachers, creating SST plans (including interventions and accommodations), creating intervention materials for effective implementation of SST plans, monitoring SST plans, and following up with teachers/staff/parents on SST next steps.
  • Provides/creates professional development opportunities to SHPS staff on the SST process and effective implementation of SST plans. 
  • Facilitates SST meetings. 
  • Calculates all timelines for SST process meeting due dates. 
  • Ensures appropriate filing and record keeping of SST plans. 
  • Creates progress monitoring resources and tracking methods for SST plans. 
  • Provides input on SST meetings, child find responsibilities, and procedures, as assigned. 
  • Helps ensure compliance by the school with all local and Federal laws and regulation relating to students with 504 plans and students referred to special education.
  • Keeps tidy and up to date records for all scholars with 504 plans. Monitors 504 plans for compliance.
  • Create a yearly overview, including due dates, for 504 meetings, via excel spreadsheet or other comparable methods. 
  • Schedules annual 504 meetings, updates 504 plans to address student progress and current needs. Facilitates 504 meetings grades TK-12.
  • Identifies scholars eligible for a 504 plan based on medical diagnoses/information provided by parents/guardians and the special education assessment process. 
  • Completes triennial re-evaluation paperwork every 3 years for 504 plans and ensures students’ continued eligibility for a 504 plan. 
  • Ensures all 504 plans are comprehensively written to support scholar needs and all 504 documents are signed by the parent/guardian and in legal compliance. 
  • Takes notes in 504 and SST meetings.
  • Ensures appropriate delivery of both special education instruction and related services as stipulated on 504 plans through monitoring of service logs, student data, classroom observations, and intervention logs. Quickly identifies any errors, and provides a recommended plan of remedy. 
  • Attends as the administrative designee in assigned IEP meetings. Takes notes in IEP meetings. Ensures IEP meetings run smoothly and provides input in IEP meetings. 
  • Oversees as admin for a caseload of assigned IEPs. 
  • Provides feedback to staff/teachers on accommodations/interventions stipulated in SST/504 plans. Ensures appropriate delivery of supports and accommodations in student plans. 
  • Demonstrates knowledge of special education laws as well as SELPA and District policies and procedures. 
  • Attends legal special education/other relevant compliance trainings/professional development opportunities.
  • Via an excel spreadsheet, or other comparable fashion, keeps track of all discipline data for students with 504 plans and communicates with the Inclusion Dean of Culture and Instruction regarding appropriate procedures for manifestation determinations and timelines.
  • Supports with supervision needs for virtual service delivery (i.e. teletherapy), as assigned.
  • Reports to supervision duties, as assigned (i.e. breakfast, lunch, dismissal etc.). 
  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications

We are seeking a results-driven leader committed to the St. HOPE Public Schools mission, high expectations and his or her own professional growth.

Required:

  • Holds a valid Education Specialist Credential 
  • Has a bachelor’s degree 
  • Pass a criminal background check

Highly Desired (but not required):

  • At least 2 years of full-time relevant subject teaching experience in an urban, underserved community
  • Bilingual speaking, reading, and writing abilities (Spanish)
  • Leadership and/or counseling experience and/or ability to teach enrichment classes (ex: music, art, sports) 

Salary

$65,000 starting salary; commensurate with experience; Signing Bonus. This is a full time position.
