St. Hilda's & St. Hugh's School is Hiring an Upper Division Learning Specialist Near New York, NY

The Upper Division Learning Support Specialist provides support to students and faculty. The learning specialist performs classroom observations, consults with teachers, helps students develop success strategies, and assists in implementing necessary accommodations for students with documented learning differences.
Duties include, but are not limited to, working with students, families, faculty/staff, and outside providers, as described below:
Work with Students
Provide support for students in grades four to eight through small-group instruction and individual meetings, including tutoring, academic support, executive functioning, study skills, and planning.
Work with Families
Provide resources to help families navigate executive functioning and class-specific challenges at home.
Work with families to discuss outside evaluations, support services, and implementation of suggested strategies.
Work with Faculty/Staff
Work with the Faculty to identify students requiring additional educational support and evaluations and coordinate identified services with students, families, and teachers.
Draft Learning Plans based on faculty recommendations, outside evaluative information, and tutoring.
Participate in weekly meetings with teachers to develop a shared understanding of student needs and collaborate with faculty to collectively support students.
Model student support strategies and facilitate teacher training related to learning accommodations.
Support the School admissions process by helping to assess student applicants and produce written evaluations.
Work with Outside Providers
Coordinate with outside providers (
Master’s degree in special education or related field and experience teaching at the middle school level; understanding of child development and experience using a range of strategies to differentiate instruction to meet individual student needs; commitment to working in close collaboration with colleagues.
