Reports to: Principal Cytometrist and Engineering Fellow

Location: Navasota, Texas

Cytonome/ST, the cytometry technology arm of STgenetics, designs and manufactures a variety of novel cytometers and cell sorters which are deployed across the global operations of STgenetics.

The company is establishing a new Advanced Cell Sorting Technology Laboratory at the STGenetics headquarters, near College Station, TX, and is seeking a Cytometry Research Technical Specialist for this new laboratory. POSITION SUMMARY

STgenetics is seeking an experienced flow cytometry, confocal microscopy, or multi-photon microscopy instrument operator to work as a Cytometry Research Technical Specialist (CRST) in its Advanced Cell Sorting Technology Laboratory. Previous experience as a core facility instrument operator or with the development of cell measurement instruments in a university setting is ideal. This instrument professional will join a multi-disciplinary team of engineers, optical scientists, and life science specialists who are developing new, proprietary, cell measurement and cell sorting systems for use in the STgenetics business. The CRST will assemble, operate, and test early-stage prototypes of these new cell measurement and cell sorting systems.

RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES

The CRST will play a hands-on role in the development, operation, and testing of prototype cell sorters and related laser-based cell measurement devices. Specific duties and responsibilities include

  • Assemble newly designed optical, measurement, and cell sorting components and systems on breadboards
  • Use test equipment such as oscilloscope, waveform generator, DVM, and optical power meter to perform bench testing and verification
  • Perform optical alignment and calibration of components and systems.
  • Perform detailed evaluation experiments with the components and systems using various particles, cells, tissues, and other biological materials.
  • Maintain accurate experimental records, perform data analyses, and generate reports.
  • Operate cell sorting instruments and benchtop flow cytometry analyzers.

EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors degree in a technology, engineering, or life science field
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in the operation of a complex cell measurement technology such as a flow cytometer, cell sorter, confocal microscope, or multi-photon microscope
  • Familiarity with the use of hand tools and test equipment such as a DVM, optical power meter, laser beam scanner, and oscilloscope
  • Experience in the handling, cleaning, and adjustment of precision optical components including thin film optical filters, lenses, fiber optics, photodetectors, and lasers.
  • Familiarity with the assembly and adjustment of lasers and optical systems
  • Experience working with Class 4 lasers and laser safety procedures
  • Excellent computer skills, with experience in the use of tools, such as MS Excel and MS Powerpoint, for recording and presenting data
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to setup and independently conduct research experiments in the laboratory
