Job Description

The histotechnician prepares and processes tissue samples through routine histologic techniques to be examined under a microscope by a pathologist. Job duties include but are not limited to:

• Embedding, cutting, and staining patient tissue samples.
• Perform quality control and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Maintain reagents, laboratory supplies, and equipment.
• Utilize the laboratory information system to obtain order information, confirm and track histologic tasks, and document QC.

Job duties & classification dependent upon education and experience.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

• Minimum:
  • high school diploma
  • at least 2 years of clinical laboratory experience or 6 months of Anatomic Pathology experience
• Desired:
  • associate degree with a combination of 12 semester hours in biology and chemistry or equivalent.
  • HT(ASCP) certification
