Job Description
POSITIONPURPOSE
This position serves the students and faculty of the Sonography Program. Under limited supervision the Lab Assistant will assist the Sonography faculty and students in the laboratory. The Lab Assistant will provide support and extra scanning help to students, assure ultrasound systems are clean and safe to use, sustain the lab, and assist faculty with applicable projects.

RESPONSIBILITIESINCLUDE, BUTARENOTLIMITED TO THEFOLLOWING:
1. Provides assistance to students and faculty in Sonography Lab
  • Tutor and provide support to students with academic difficulties in Sonography.
  • Assist students with computer based, simulation, and traditional lab exercises.
  • Work with course faculty to obtain a better comprehension of instructional material.
  • Supervise laboratory exams on an individual bases as directed by course faculty
  • Conducts demonstrations by showing students the proper use of lab equipment and/or the correct steps to be followed in a lab exercise so that equipment abuse is avoided, and students achieve the intended lab results.
  • Provide open lab hours each fall, spring, summer semesters.
  • Promotes good ergonomics skills in the lab.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
2. Help faculty maintain equipment and supplies in Sonography Lab
  • Ensures enough supplies and equipment are available within the Sonography lab so that experiments and demonstrations can be properly conducted by regularly inventorying supplies and equipment on hand and informing the faculty of needed items to be ordered.
  • Prepares the physical layout of the open lab so that supplies and equipment are ready for student laboratory work. This is done by discussion with the faculty the requirements for each lab set-up, preparing or overseeing the preparation of needed equipment and cleaning up after labs are completed.
  • Oversees the security of the open lab so that equipment and materials are used properly and kept safe by verifying the presence of equipment, keeping records of equipment used in the lab, monitoring consumption of supplies by students, protecting equipment and supplies from use by unauthorized persons, implementing procedures that provide for the security of the lab and the students’ work.
  • Routine equipment maintenance and monitoring equipment storage.
Required Qualifications
MINIMUMQUALIFICATIONS:
  • Associate of Applied Sciences degree in sonography or graduate from an accredited Sonography Program.
  • A Laboratory Assistant for the Sonography Program shall be registered with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) in Abdomen, and Obstetrics and Gynecology.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification
  • Must be able to function independently to conduct assigned tasks and duties related to equipment maintenance, supply inventory and distribution.
  • Ability to work effectively with faculty and students.
  • Oversee security and safety of lab equipment and materials and general lab environment.
  • Report to work regularly and on time.
  • Communicate with others in a cooperative and respectful manner.
  • Two years of work experience in the field of ultrasound or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
PREFERREDQUALIFICATIONS:
  • Registered with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) in Vascular.
  • Three plus years of work experience in the field of ultrasound or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
