Pay

  • $15-17 per hour
  • Pay rate based on qualifications and experience
  • Part-time, seasonal, not benefit-eligible

Hours of Work

  • Hours include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Position runs from April through November for peak season and occasional hours in winter
  • Work anywhere from 10-40 hours weekly
  • Hours may be limited by inclement weather

Typical Duties Performed

  • Work independently and as part of a team.
  • Mow grass, rake leaves, and pick up brush and branches.
  • Assure parks are kept neat and orderly by picking up garbage and replacing garbage bags in the receptacles.
  • Assist other park workers in building and grounds maintenance work, including cleaning public restrooms, pools, and fountains.
  • Perform daily maintenance of machines, including washing and greasing of mowers, trailers, and trucks.
  • Clean wading pools and areas around the pools and verify that chemical levels are in compliance.
  • Perform building maintenance work, painting, and repair of permanent structures.
  • Serve as an attendant at a park pavilion, picnic area, or parking lot, as assigned for special events such as fireworks.
  • Follow safe working practices and makes appropriate use of related safety equipment, as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

What is needed to apply for this job?

  • Job seekers should be age 18 or older
  • Valid Minnesota Class D driver’s license, or equivalent out-of-state license, with no moving violation suspensions or revocations (including DUI) within the one-year period prior to the date of appointment (suspensions for parking-related offenses excluded)
  • Ability to lift/move up to 75 pounds
  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, kneel, crouch, twist, and turn and use fine motor skills and manual dexterity
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions experienced throughout the summer months

You May Be a Great Fit if You Have:

  • Ability to complete tasks without supervision
  • Good knowledge of lawn and grounds care
  • One (1) or more years of experience running small engine equipment such as lawnmowers, weed whips, blowers, and other equipment as necessary
  • Responsible work attitude, as well as reliable, organized work habits
  • Working ability to understand and follow directions
  • Working ability to communicate effectively with the public and enforce the park rules

Located in central Minnesota, the City of St. Cloud is home to about 80,000 people. St. Cloud Park & Recreation boasts 98 parks and offers special events and programming for all ages. As a department, Park & Recreation employs an average of 23 full-time year-round employees, 25 part-time year-round employees, and 100 part-time seasonal employees between park maintenance, aquatics, Munsinger/Clemens Gardens, Lake George Municipal Complex, and Whitney Recreation Center and Sports Complex.
