    QUALIFICATIONS:
    Required
    • Bachelor’s degree
    • 3 – 5 years’ experience working in communications, marketing or public relations
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Strategic thinking, planning and organization skills
    • Creative thinking and problem-solving skills
    • Design and desktop publishing skills; proficient in AP style and command of grammar, style, sentence structure and spelling
    • Proofreading and editing skills
    • Proficient in social media tools
    • Ability to work with diverse groups and a variety of audiences
    • Ability to work a flexible and/or extended yearly schedule, along with working a flexible daily/weekly schedule (occasional evenings may be required)
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

    POSITION SUMMARY:
    The Communications Coordinator works closely with the Director of Community Engagement and Communications and assists in the development, management and distribution of district-wide communication efforts. The Communications Coordinator is responsible for developing and curating content: print, web-based and electronic, for external and internal audiences; maintaining and optimizing the district’s social media sites and promoting the district’s brand identity and positive public image.
    ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
    • Works with the Director of Community Engagement and Communications and others in the communications department to create and implement communications strategies for the district’s key constituencies (students and families, staff, alumni, community members, and school board members)
    • With the Director of Community Engagement and Communications, oversees the communication efforts of all District 742 programs to ensure accuracy, consistency and best practices
    • Provides support to Marketing Coordinator and other team members
    • Writes content for internal and external audiences with a command of grammar, style, sentence structure and spelling
    • Curates content for print, web-based and electronic sources using content management systems
    • Maintains and grows the district’s social media presence using analytics to inform decisions
    • Solicits feedback from staff and community members by developing surveys and other methods of data collection, evaluates and analyzes data to implement program improvements
    • Maintains and updates the organization’s website to ensure current content, accuracy and quality
    • Collaborates with media specialists, school and program staff, and the technical services department to produce the organization’s internal and external web presence
    • Provides expertise and leadership in the development of a technical plan, suggests production methods and necessary software, equipment and investigates costs
    • Develops and provides necessary software training for district staff, relative to web design and maintenance
    • Develops and promotes the District 742 brand
    • Assists in developing high-quality marketing materials; creates layout, artwork and other graphics
    • Proofreads and edits materials for accuracy, consistency, clarity and style
    • Assists in developing and implementing new methods by which to engage diverse populations
    • Works closely with the Marketing Coordinator and other staff to gather information for marketing materials
    • Organizes and maintains communication department projects
    • Analyzes data from website, social media, other media, and surveys
    • Assists in the development and communication of district-wide efforts and initiatives as aligned with the school district’s strategic plan and mission statement
    • Assists in the management of the school district’s video production needs
    • Coordinates taking photographs and maintains a file of photographs, video, etc. designed to help chronicle school events, activities, programs and services
    • Works closely with various vendors to obtain quality products
    • Actively participates in professional development activities by attending training in the areas of technology, social media, design, marketing and education
