Position Summary:
The Surgical Technologist provides surgical care demonstrating expertise in the application of sterile and aseptic technique under the supervision of the Registered Nurse. Combines knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation of tools and technologies to assist physician’s performance of invasive procedures.
Duties/Responsibilities:
• Performs appropriate age-specific surgical care to patient population served.
• Prepares for age-specific surgical care based on age of patient and planned surgical procedure.
• Provides appropriate intraoperative surgical care based on the patient’s age and planned surgical procedure.
• Adheres to the principles of aseptic practice.
• Performs sponge, sharps, and instrument counts according to written policy.
• Cares for surgical specimens and cultures.
• Provides a safe environment for the surgical patient
• Observes environmental infection control practices.
• Uses St. Claire resources and equipment for patient care efficiently.
• Performs action that demonstrates accountability.
Education:
Graduate of a program in surgical technology.
Experience:
One year previous surgical technologist experience preferred.
Licensure/Certification:
Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) preferred Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
