JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE: Probation Officer – Outer County Office

The Probation Officer assigned to one of the outer county offices located in Nashville, Pinckneyville, Chester and Waterloo is appointed by the Director of Court Services and Probation with the approval of the Chief Circuit Judge and is under the direct supervision of the Outer County Office Supervisor. These officers supervise adult and juvenile probationers sentenced to probation for either a traffic, misdemeanor or felony conviction. The individual appointed as an Outer County Probation Officer may serve at the discretion of the Director a six-month probationary period.

QUALIFICATIONS:

All applicants for the position of Outer County Probation Officer must minimally meet the following qualifications for appointment:

• Obtained a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university;

• Certified eligible for hire by the Administrative Office of The Illinois Courts;

• No prior felony convictions;

• Must be 21 years of age or older;

• A resident of Monroe, Randolph, Perry or Washington Counties prior to completion of the probationary period, a U.S. citizen and resident of Illinois within 90 days of appointment;

• Possess strong time management and organizational skills;

• Possess strong verbal and written communication skills;

• Possess a valid driver’s license.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The duties and responsibilities of the Outer County Probation Officer shall include, but not be limited to, the following:

• Supervise a caseload of adult and/or juvenile offenders in accordance with A.O.I.C. and departmental policy and procedures;

• Prepare PSI‘s, Social Studies, up-date PSI‘s and Social Studies and criminal history checks when assigned;

• Conduct intake interviews on all adult and juveniles sentenced to probation;

• Provide monthly reports related to activity of the caseload;

• Document all contacts with the probationers relating to treatment, office visits, home visits, school attendance, community service, urinalysis tests, employment and any other pertinent data relative to the case;

• Testify in all Court proceedings related to the case (i.e. revocation hearings, sentencing hearings, reviews, preliminary hearings, etc.);

• Arrest adult and juvenile probationers who have active warrants;

• Successfully complete 40 hours basic Probation Officer training and any other training required by the Administrative Office of the Illinois Courts or the department;

• Obtain urinalysis from probationers;

• File revocation reports with the State’s Attorney’s Office;

• All other duties as assigned;

• Have no prior felony convictions and/or felony suspended imposition cases.
