We offer general surgery, bariatrics, endoscopy, pH/Manometry, with sub- specialties in colorectal surgery, robotic surgery, and breast surgery. St. Charles Surgical Specialists provides surgical care throughout Central Oregon with clinics located in Bend, Redmond, Prineville, and Madras. POSITION OVERVIEW: Surgery - Advance Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner and/or Physician Assistant) -- Bariatrics-focused role is responsible for providing medical and surgical services under the general supervision of the Chief Physician Officer and Executive Medical Director and direct supervision of designated physicians. In this role, the APP will provide first assist in the operating room with all aspects of General Surgery including open, laparoscopic and robotic techniques including bariatric, colorectal, and breast operations. Provides both inpatient and outpatient care that includes daily rounding, orders, post-op instructions and discharge summaries, clinic consultations and post-operative office visits. Clinic patients will primarily be post-bariatric follow up patients,but may also include other general surgery post op conditions. Clinic locations may include Bend, Redmond, Madras and Prineville. Work Schedule: Provider shall be a full time exempt provider. Which requires a minimum of forty hours of inpatient and outpatient contact per week. This will generally be four 10-hour days scheduled as a blend of hospital rounding, procedure time and scheduled clinic visits recognizing that the minimum requirement may fluctuate up or down based on direct patient care. Call Expectation: Provider is expected to participate in the first-call coverage for Bend and Redmond inpatient and outpatient questions and concerns during regular scheduled work hours in each of the assigned locations; this is shared equally by all the APP’s in the group . Providers are expected to participate in the weekend call rotation covering both Redmond and Bend inpatients, as well as outpatient phone calls, which is shared by the APP in collaboration with a Surgeon. The call expectation is approximately once every 4-6 weeks. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES: Clinical Duties: Acts as First or Second Assistant during surgical procedures as directed by the physicians. Performs patient examinations, obtains and records pertinent medical history, subjective and objective findings. Orders and interprets appropriate laboratory, imaging, and other diagnostic procedures. Interprets and integrates data to determine diagnosis and therapeutic plan. Administers and prescribes medications in compliance with state law and practice guidelines. Orders and performs appropriate medical and surgical procedures in accordance with State law and practice guidelines. Instructs patient and family regarding medications and treatments. Educates patients regarding health and illness prevention. Recommends community resources to meet patient and family needs. Maintains and reviews patient records, charts, and other pertinent information, documenting clearly and concisely. Charts tests, examination results, and other appropriate clinical data. Triages patient telephone calls, providing consultation as needed. Communicates effectively with colleagues, patients, physicians, and administration. Maintains quality of clinical practice by selecting appropriate avenues for professional growth. Participates in and supports quality and performance improvement activities; identifies areas and functions where patients, staff, and physicians need information. Under physician supervision, may participate in the care and management of hospital in and outpatients, including medical and surgical procedures. Administrative Expectations: Document all patient care within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and complete all necessary tasks in compliance with health system policies and regulatory agencies to ensure timely and accurate billing. Be familiar with the SCHS organization structure. Keep medical knowledge and skills current through regular CME activity. Must attest to having adequate (CME) to meet maintenance of board certification and compliance with MSO rules and continuing privileges without restriction. Keep all licenses and appropriate certifications current and unrestricted. Maintain active privileges at a St. Charles Health System hospital sufficient to permit performance of job duties. Complies with all applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures, supporting the health system’s corporate integrity efforts by acting in an ethical and appropriate manner, reporting known or suspected violations of applicable rules, and cooperating fully with all health system’s investigations and proceedings. Keep all licenses and appropriate certifications current and unrestricted to maintain privileges at a St. Charles Health System hospital sufficient to permit performance of job duties. Increases understanding and collaboration throughout the medical community. Maintain compliance of hospital’s Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations, as required by SCHS Board of Directors. EDUCATION Required: Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner course of study and certification as appropriate to the incumbent’s license. Complete annual fire/safety, etc. education in-services as required. Attend mandatory educational offerings as described in SCHS policies/procedures and/or as required by other regulatory bodies. Complete annual CME as required to maintain license and appropriate Board certification. Complete in a timely manner assigned Computer Based Learning modules. LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION Required: Unrestricted Physician Assistant and/or Nurse Practitioner licensure in the state of Oregon. Physician Assistant requires NCCPA certification. Nurse Practitioner requires AANC, NCC or AANP, AMCB certification. If Physician Assistant, ability to establish and maintain a Practice Agreement with a Supervising Physician through OMB. Unrestricted Federal DEA number registered in Oregon. Unrestricted ability to participate in Medicare / Medicaid, or other federal or state governmental health care programs. Valid driver’s license and the ability to meet SCHS driving requirements. Current BLS certification required. If provider will practice sedation, moderate or deep, ACLS certification is also required. Additional certifications may be required based on privileges granted to provider by Medical Staff Services at SCHS Inpatient locations. Preferred: Robotic surgery certification EXPERIENCE Required: General Surgery first assist Hospital rounding Experience using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) software. Advanced written and verbal communication skills to effectively interact with a diverse population and professionally represent St. Charles Health System. Experience working in a team environment and proven ability to collaborate, manage facilitation and consensus building among health care professionals and agencies to achieve expected results. Preferred: Epic EMR software experience Robotic surgery experience Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required to perform the job safely. GENERAL Must have excellent communication skills and ability to interact with a diverse population and professionally represent SCHS. Strong team working and collaborative skills. Ability to multi-task and work independently. Attention to detail. Excellent organizational skills, written and oral communication and customer service skills, particularly in dealing with stressful personal interactions. Intermediate to advanced proficiency with Electronic Medical Record systems. Intermediate in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel).
