Occupation: Part-Time Custodian
Purpose Statement
The job of Custodian was established for the purpose(s) of maintaining a sanitary, safe and clean facility for students, staff and the public.
This job reports to the School Principal.
Essential Functions
- Cleans assigned school facilities (e.g. classrooms, offices, gym, restrooms, multipurpose rooms, grounds, cafeteria, library, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a sanitary, safe and clean facility.
- Inspects school facility for the purpose of ensuring that the site is suitable for safe operations, maintained in a clean condition and identify necessary repairs.
- Maintains supplies and equipment for the purpose of ensuring the availability of items required to properly maintain facilities.
- Performs routine grounds keeping duties for the purpose of maintaining grounds in a safe and attractive condition.
- Prepares facility for daily operations for the purpose of ensuring school facilities are operational and safe for occupancy.
- Responds to immediate safety and/or operational concerns for the purpose of taking appropriate action to resolve immediate safety issues and maintaining a functioning educational environment.
- Secures facilities and grounds for the purpose of minimizing property damage and ensuring a safe work site.
- Attends certain in-service training for the purpose of receiving information on new and/or different procedures.
- Assure safety during inclement weather to include shoveling, salting and/or snow blowing.
- Adheres to all safety measures for cleaning, lifting, moving and operating equipment.
- Verifies emergency equipment is maintained and repaired as need be
- Other duties as assigned
Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications
- Skills are required to perform multiple tasks
- Prioritize multiple jobs
- Being able to lift minimum of 25 pounds
- Open to filling in certain shifts when needed
- Knowledge of cleaning supplies
- Knowledge of ordering cleaning supplies
- Occasional need to upgrade own skills
- Open to weekend work

- Basic mathematical skills
- Flexibility in attitude and work schedule
- Able to adjust quickly throughout the day
- High School Diploma, completion of G.E.D., or equivalent vocational school
- Being able to pass a BCI/FBI background check
