St. Andrew’s Community Resource Center, a ministry of St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church in Mahtomedi, Minnesota, seeks to transform lives through Christ’s love by equipping families and individuals with resources that lead to housing and employment stability.

We are currently seeking a dependable and caring Shelter Associate for St. Andrew’s Family Shelter, located in Hugo, Minnesota. The Shelter Associate is responsible for creating a welcoming and safe environment for families experiencing housing insecurity and working with the shelter team to provide coverage of required staff hours.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Create a welcoming, safe environment for families experiencing homelessness
• Enforce shelter policies and procedures with guests and volunteers
• Train and orient volunteers
• Light housework
• Assist with meal planning/prep
• Other duties as requested or assigned

Preferred Qualifications:

• Human Services degree or equivalent work experience
• 2 years of experience in human services or a closely related field
• Experience working with volunteers
• Experience using basic office equipment
• Bilingual Spanish/English preferred

• Working knowledge of the causes and impacts of living in poverty

• Skill in working as part of a team and collaborating with colleagues
• Skill in prioritizing assignments to complete work in a timely manner

Work Schedule:

Part-time, approximately 12 hours per week. The work schedule will consist of two 6 hour shifts or one 12 hour shift every weekend. Scheduled shifts could include 8:30am-8:30pm, 8:30am-2:30pm, or 2:30pm-8:30pm depending on shelter needs. There will be opportunities to pick up additional hours to cover for staff and volunteer call-ins, which may include some overnight shifts.
