Overview

SRI Biosciences, a division of SRI International, integrates basic biomedical research with drug and diagnostics discovery and preclinical and clinical development. SRI International, a research center headquartered in Menlo Park, California, creates world-changing solutions to make people safer, healthier, and more productive.

As a part of the Financial Operations Team this role would be dedicated to supporting projects accross SRI's Biosciences Division. Financial Operations is a team of about 40 business managers, and financial project administrators. The work in this area focuses on government contracting/grants financial revenue models. Our largest funder in the Biosciences is NIH.

The Project Administrator/Controller (PA) ensures that the project's financial status is managed in accordance with GAAP, FAR/CAS, SRI policy and contractual requirements. The PA will support various projects and their leaders in the preparation of proposals and cost estimates, project setup, and maintenance with timely and accurate financial reporting and invoicing. The PA reports directly to and performs project financial analysis and reporting for the division Business Manager (BM), in SRI's Financial Operations team, and partners with division leadership, contracts, corporate accounting, and procurement groups among others, responding to queries from both internal organizations and external clients. Responsibilities include maintaining several project forecasts, ensuring accurate revenue recognition, preparing cost estimates for pricing including estimating project cash flows, providing responses to internal and external financial audits and reviews, as well as reviewing contract provisions, financial reporting requirements, and schedules necessary for project set up. The PA will assist in division budget preparation by maintaining project forecasts, review and approval of purchase orders, expense reports, timely invoice back-up reports, and assisting Project Leaders (PL) and BMs by monitoring project financial status and project funding levels, responsible for escalating potential major financial impacts prior to their occurrence.

This role is 100% remote eligible, but we have a preference for candidates in the Arlington, VA area, or Menlo Park, CA area.

Responsibilities

Project Controller / Administrator II, under general supervision, takes ownership and accountability for the financial management and oversight of a project throughout its lifecycle, ensuring the financial status is in accordance with GAAP, FAR and CAS and other government regulations, contractual requirements and SRI policy, taking an active role in all aspects of the process. They are responsible for ensuring the project stays on track regarding budgets, forecasts, timelines and contractual requirements. They are an integral part of the project team, working collaboratively and proactively to gather insight and contributions from stakeholders such as project leadership, contracts, accounting, and finance. They implement and organize project setup and finance tools in accordance with contractual requirements to ensure an effective foundation for the life of the contract. They are a member of the finance operations team and responsible for monitoring cost and revenue, identifying potential schedule or performance risks, escalating as necessary, while providing solid finance guidance and support to project and division leadership.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

    Provide financial review, support, and guidance to the Project team.
  • Assist accounting to ensure project billing and accounts receivables are up to date; verify that invoices are prepared and issued per requirements; monitor and report on unbilled receivables.
  • Partner with accounting and contracts to ensure efficient and compliant project setup in Costpoint, including revenue recognition, reporting and invoicing.
  • Ensure project forecasts are updated and accurate, notify contracts team when % complete notification is required.
  • Prepare and submit invoice back-up reports timely and accurately.
  • Provide well-timed response to audit requests.
  • Perform project and indirect accruals.
  • Identify all issues related to margin variances and notify financial operations supervisor, project leaders and stakeholders on potential risks and large variances.
  • Complete EACs for accounting and analyze profitability of all projects.
  • Team with accounting to ensure alignment of project forecast with funding and billings to client.
  • Monitor activities for accuracy and quality and ensure project operations conform to company policies, appropriately communicating issues through finance operations.
  • They may be involved in proposal pricing, vendor management and invoicing.
Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 2 to 5 years related experience
  • US Citizen
  • Proficient in Excel and other MS Office tools
  • Produce results with attention to detail and accuracy, integrity.

Preference will be given to candidates who have:

  • Our strong preference is to find a candidate who can commute as needed to the Harrisonburg, VA office and/or the Princeton, NJ office. Remote candidates will also be considered, depending on experience.
  • Understanding of project forecasting, variance analysis and reporting, proposal preparation, cost control, and project maintenance functions in government contracting environment
  • Experience in Costpoint/Deltek, MicroStrategy, Adaptive - a large share of time for this role will be spent in billing/invoicing and we use Deltek/Costpoint and Sharepoint
  • Familiarity with GAAP, CAS and FAR regulations
  • A knowledge of NIH, DHHS, or NSF grant or contracting processes and procedures
  • Track record of successsful performance in a deadline driven environment

The salary range is: $71,264 - $86,000. Salary ranges will vary and are based on several factors, including geographic location, market competitiveness and equity amongst internal employees in similar roles. Positions may also qualify for SRI's Pay for Outstanding Performance program or the annual Performance Based Compensation program.
