Position Description: TITLE: Underground Operator Cable Construction
DEPARTMENT (S): Wireline (Cable/Fiber)
DIRECT REPORTs: N/A
REPORTS TO: Foreman/Supervisor
POSITION SUMMARY
The Underground Operator is responsible for supporting the crews by performing work related to the underground installation, repair, or movement of telecommunications cable.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Assists in the underground installations of cabling components
Perform manual labor using hand tools, including but not limited to digging holes, placing handholes, etc. under direct supervision.
Perform fiber placement activities using either hand pulling or mechanical pulling, as required
Manually load and unload materials
Safely utilize various construction hand tools
Drive truck to/from job locations (with the proper licensing requirements)
Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) while working including but not limited to hard hat, reflective vest, and safety goggles
Maintain and promote a safe working environment for yourself and the other members of your team
Other duties as assigned
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Regularly lift and/or move up to 100lbs
Ability to work in remote or congested traffic areas
Willingness to work outdoors in every type of weather
Ability to work alone or with crews
Ability to work safely
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Experience in operating various hand tools
Possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record
Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
High School Diploma or GED
CDL
Prior construction experience
21 years of age or older
Aerial cable installation experience
Splicing experience
Certified Pole Climber
