Description

Spruce Environmental Technologies is looking to expand its Radon Lab in Harrisburg, PA. We are looking for a Lab Supervisor to support the Lab Manager in the day-day operations of managing and processing radon devices through the analysis process so that reports are delivered to customers in a timely manner with a strong emphasis on adhering to internal quality controls.

Requirements

OVERVIEW OF KEY RESPONSIBILTIES

· Supervise laboratory technicians and office personnel providing training and support as needed.

· Facilitate the accurate analysis and reporting of Radon samples.

· Interpret test results and compile reports for internal and external use.

· Operate within the laboratory budget, ensuring resources are available for all necessary equipment and materials.

· Schedule and support staff, maintaining optimal staffing levels to meet operational needs.

· Oversee quality assurance (QA) initiatives and maintain strict quality control (QC) practices to meet industry standards.

· Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations in the laboratory.

CORE DUTIES 

Safety and Compliance 

Ensure that operations comply with legal, regulatory, and organizational standards. Promote a safe and secure working environment, adhering to health and safety guidelines.

Team supervision and leadership 

The Lab Supervisor will oversee day-to-day operations and staff, ensuring tasks are completed accurately and on schedule. They will also provide guidance and support to the team, fostering a productive and collaborative work environment. 

Workflow Management and Optimization 

This individual will organize, prioritize, and assign tasks to ensure smooth workflow and efficient operations. They will also identify areas for process improvements, implementing changes to enhance productivity and service quality.

Communication and Liaison 

Serve as a key point of contact for internal communications and liaise with external parties. Facilitate clear and effective communication within the team and with other departments or external stakeholders.

Administrative Oversight 

Oversee administrative tasks, including document management, scheduling, and correspondence. Ensure that office policies and procedures are adhered to and that records are maintained accurately.

Staff Training and Development 

Coordinate and facilitate staff training sessions, promoting continuous professional development. Provide coaching and feedback to team members, aiding in their skill enhancement and career growth.

Resource Management 

Manage supplies and resources, ensuring that the team has the necessary tools and materials to perform their jobs efficiently. Operate within an approved budget, ensuring resources are utilized effectively and within budgetary constraints.

Skills and Relative Experience: 

  • The Lab Supervisor must have experience of working in a laboratory setting, with a preference in radiochemistry or measurement of radioactive materials along with experience in recording and assessing quality control samples.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be detail oriented while paying close attention to quality control, standard operating procedures, staff training, and related documentation.
  • Demonstration of strong logical reasoning and critical thinking skills, excel in problem-solving, and efficiently absorb and apply the latest information required.
  • Must have proficiency with software applications, especially Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, and Teams), to effectively conduct data analysis, generate reports, and manage routine communications.

Education / Background: 

A college degree in physical science is preferred although equivalent laboratory experience may be acceptable. 

Expected to obtain and maintain the NRPP (National Radon Proficiency Program) Radon Measurement Professional certification as well as the Radon Measurement Specialist credential for NJ and FL.
