Description
Starts at $15.00 / hour and advance to $15.50 after 320 hours. This is a temporary assignment that can work in to a full-time position depending on ability.
Receives incoming lumber & material, transports lumber and product to different locations on-site, and loads product onto out-going trailers.
Operates industrial truck (forklift) in accordance with established procedures. Verifies received material, inventory availability, and outgoing shipments.
Keeps work areas supplied with material and pallets. Prepares orders for shipping, including boxing and banding. Prepares and maintains records.
Cleans and maintains work area to ensure compliance with safety regulations. Can be assigned to support either inside production or outside lumber yard operations.
Major Areas of Responsibility / Tasks / Duties % of Time Receive lumber, product or components which may include unloading trucks, verifying packaging slips and purchase orders, delivering to the necessary individual or placing in inventory.
Drive industrial truck (forklift) to unload trucks. Complete cycle count sheets. 45% Support outside woodlot and production operations.
Drive forklift to and from on-site inventory locations & workstations Transport lumber and in-process product to various stages of processing with forklift Load / unload stacker, kilns, pre-dry barns, and dry barn.
Perform daily maintenance on equipment (refuel industrial truck with LP or diesel). Band / Wrap orders for delivery Keep workstations appropriately supplied with material.
Process branch transfers. Perform cycle counts to verify that inventory is accurate. Perform inventory transactions. Work production when necessary.
45% Maintain plant and yard environment. Remove and replace pallets, wood stickers, and yard dunnage as needed. Repair pallets Appropriately dispose of waste sawdust, banding, cardboard, ash, etc.
Follow 5S procedures to maintain work environment in a neat and orderly condition Follow safety policies and procedures.
Attend regularly-scheduled safety meetings. Attend team huddles and other meetings to ensure smooth flow of communication.
Assist with various projects as assigned. 10%
Requirements
Education and Experience : Minimum - High school diploma or equivalent. Apply basic math skills including multiplication, division, subtraction, addition, and fractions.
Read, analyze, and interpret work orders. Ability to work independently and as part of team. Must be willing to be crossed-trained.
Preferred - Excellent performance reviews & no history of disciplinary action. Quality @ Source Level I Certification. Excellent safety record Preferred Knowledge, Skill, & Abilities Accuracy / Attention to detail Moderate computer skills are necessary Operate LP or diesel industrial truck (forklift) Basic math skills including multiplication, division, subtraction, addition, and fractions Effectively communicate with co-workers and internal customers Ability to lift 70 pounds from ground to waist Excellent time management and organizational skills Obtain / maintain Michigan Drivers License and SWF Industrial Truck permit Ensures quality by : Using project plan and project schedule methodology Clearly defining and utilizing processes in daily work Understanding SFW team structure, roles and responsibilities Integrating process methodology into daily work;
MPI, QAT, 5S, 6D, Q@S etc Looking for innovative ways to streamline work processes across the division and involves stakeholders Identifying gaps using tools such as Baldridge criteria, WI Forward Award criteria, GPTW, IDP etc Establishing forums to share best practices Using department and company scorecard and other metrics Measuring own work to plan and reports out at a micro and macro level Willing to be cross-trained Being dependable with attendance Effectively working independently and as part of a team Excellent safety record no work accidents due to unsafe behavior in last 4 years
