The Springfield Water and Sewer Commission seeks qualified applicants for entry level labor position at West Parish Filters water treatment plant in Westfield, MA. 

Staff stationed at West Parish Filters support the work of the water treatment plant and maintain the grounds of the facility. Duties may include heavy equipment operation, CDL vehicle operation, landscaping, tree removal, carpentry, mowing, weed whacking, digging ditches, road work, pipe repair, snow plowing, and minor building maintenance.

A current state Driver's License is desirable.

Candidates who are offered positions will be required to complete pre-employment criminal background check, pre-employment physical, and pre-employment drug test. Employment offers are conditioned on the applicant’s ability to satisfy the Commission’s requirements with regard to pre-employment screening.

Applicants must be able to:

• lift up to 90# as needed
• work in all weather conditions as well as inside buildings and private residences
• interact in an effective, respectful, and professional manner with the public
• use computers as part of their regular work duties
• operate hand tools and construction related equipment safely and effectively

Preferred skills:

• CDL A/B license with tanker endorsement preferred
• Hoisting license preferred

This is a non-exempt position with some overtime. Candidates must be available for on-call rotation as needed including nights and weekends. Starting hourly rate is in accordance with the union contract and is $19.23 to $23.68 depending on experience. Promotional opportunities are regularly available. This is a full-time 40 hour/week position with paid sick and vacation time.
