Job Title: 2024-2025 Learning Coach - Special Education
Department: Special Services
Pay Grade: Teacher Salary Schedule and 15 additional days
FLSA Status: Exempt
Reports to: Director V - Special Services
GENERAL PURPOSE
Responsible for providing support to the instructional program with specific responsibilities for facilitating student success for students with disabilities who have an Individualized Education Program (IEP). Also responsible for supporting teachers' development of lesson plans and delivering group and individual instruction within the established curriculum guidelines to address the student's learning needs.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Support teachers in administering subject-specific assessments, developmental testing programs, etc. Assessing student competency levels to enhance learning for students with disabilities.
Collaborates with special education teachers to communicate student progress with parents and/or legal guardians, communicates expectations and student achievements, develops methods for improvement and/or provides effective resources to support and reinforce classroom goals in the home environment.
Supports teachers in regularly assessing student progress toward learning objectives, expectations and/or goals providing feedback to students, teachers, and administration.
Provides ongoing, scheduled professional learning regarding supporting students with disabilities for teachers through monthly team meetings.
Reviews and studies professional learning materials and texts, advancing expertise and delivering the highest quality instructional practices to support students with disabilities.
Collaborates with administration communicating student and teacher data.
Monitors and reviews BOY, MOY, and EOY site assessment data and goal progress; collaborates with site leaders and teams to develop IEPs.
Collaborates with instructional staff, other school personnel, parents, and a variety of community resources, improving the overall quality of student outcomes and achieving established classroom objectives in support of the school action plan.
Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to address instructional and/or classroom issues regarding students with disabilities; and responds to a wide range of inquiries from internal and external stakeholders regarding the instructional program, progress monitoring, and students' instructional supports and interventions.
Supports classroom teachers by assisting them in the implementation of district-approved curriculum to improve learning outcomes for students with disabilities.
Attends professional learning opportunities regularly.
Facilitates meaningful professional development for teachers and engages teachers in collaborative and reflective practices about improving the learning outcomes for students with disabilities.
Navigate support functions and engage in coaching cycles to meet the individual needs of staff.
Supports educators and leaders in utilizing data to inform decisions for planning, delivery, and assessment of instructional practices.
Demonstrates methods required to perform classroom and/or subject-specific assignments.
Directs paraprofessionals, assistant teachers, student teachers, instructional assistants, volunteers, and/or student workers, providing an effective classroom program and addressing the needs of individual students.
Manages student behavior providing a safe and optimal learning environment.
Participates in a variety of meetings conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
Prepares a variety of materials documenting student progress and meeting mandated requirements.
Reports incidents maintaining the personal safety of students, providing a positive learning environment, and adhering to the Education Code and school policies.
Respond to emergency situations resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.
Respond to inquiries from a variety of internal and external stakeholders, resolving issues, and providing information and/or direction.
Supports teachers by assisting them in the implementation of established curriculum and/or individual student plans designed to mitigate learning loss.
Perform other related duties as required/assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience
Bachelor's Degree in a job-related area from an accredited college or university, preferred.
Minimum of three (3-) years of related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is required.
Certificates, Licenses and Other Special Requirements
Missouri Teaching Certification in Education for the appropriate grade level is required.
Must pass a criminal background clearance the results of which are satisfactory to the District, required.
Will work an additional fifteen (15) days.
Valid driver's license with evidence of insurability, required.
Special Education certification and/or experience is recommended.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge is required to model best instructional practices in the classroom, plan effectively with cooperating teachers, plan appropriate meetings with clear objectives and relevant, measurable outcomes, facilitate group sessions with adult audiences and instruction, incorporate appropriate technology, create an environment conducive to learning and teaching, and provide relevant feedback to teachers.
Knowledge of algebra and/or geometry; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and solve practical problems.
Knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include accounting/bookkeeping principles and budget processing.
Skill to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to routinely upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions.
Skill based competencies required to perform the functions of the job, including applying district, state and federal policies and regulations; operating standard office equipment including pertinent software applications; performing accounting procedures; and preparing and maintaining accurate records.
Ability to read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions.
Ability to analyze situations to define issues, draw conclusions, and create action plans.
Ability to schedule a number of activities, meetings, and/or events; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use job-related equipment.
Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to accomplish District objectives.
Ability to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with data of widely varied types and/or purposes; and utilize job-related equipment.
Ability to apply critical thinking/problem solving to improve work processes.
Ability to work as part of a team; analyze situations and make accurate decisions; work on multiple projects; and deal with frequent interruptions and changing work priorities.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
Work environment is primarily inside, where the noise and temperature levels are moderate.
The work is sedentary work that requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects.
Must possess the physical ability to perceive the nature of sounds, make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes, express or exchange ideas by the spoken word, substantial movements (motions) with the hands, wrists, and/or fingers, and discern letters or numbers at a given distance.
Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, manual dexterity, mental acuity, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity and walking.
