Job Title: School Police Officer (9 month position)
Department: School Police Services
Pay Grade: SP50, SP60, SP70
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Reports to: Director III - School Police
GENERAL PURPOSE
Responsible for providing support to the instructional process with specific responsibilities for the safety and welfare of students during classroom and non-classroom activities; minimizing the frequency and/or severity of harmful incidents; and communicating observations and/or incidents that have a potential impact on the general wellbeing of students, school personnel, and/or visitors.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Analyze activities that may be in violation of school policies and/or an indication of possible criminal activity assisting administrators, communicating corresponding information necessary for determining action, and/or providing documentation.
Conduct routine proactive patrol of schools and areas surrounding and inside designated District buildings.
Assist the administrative team for the purpose of researching incidents and investigating law violations.
Communicate safety and security policies and enforcement procedures to students, staff and visitors ensuring their understanding of such information and the potential consequences of violation.
Interact with other school and District personnel, representatives of local law enforcement agencies, visitors, parents, students, etc. providing information and/or taking action regarding investigations, criminal activities, gang activities, vandalism, etc. for the safety and security of the school site.
Intervene in potential conflicts and emergencies minimizing disruptions of campus activities and/or injury to involved parties.
Effect arrests, requiring knowledge of state statutes, handcuffing procedures, Miranda Warning procedures, and interviewing arrestees.
Safely transport prisoners and civilians in patrol vehicle.
Maintain a variety of files and records ensuring the availability of information for future reference and/or audit for compliance to established policies.
Monitor student behavior during and between assigned periods, during extra-curricular and other student maintaining a safe and positive learning environment, and secure facility.
Prepare a variety of documents providing written reference, and/or conveying information.
Recommend policies, procedures and/or actions to school administration providing information and/or direction for ensuring campus security.
Refer incidents including personal injuries, altercations, suspicious activities, law violations, etc. to appropriate site personnel or outside law enforcement agency ensuring follow-up in accordance with administrative, site security and student safety guidelines.
Prepare for court appearances by familiarizing self with case report and testimony procedures.
Respond to inquiries from a variety of sources regarding campus security issues providing information, direction and/or referral for addressing inquiry.
Respond to a variety of situations taking the appropriate action to resolve immediate safety and/or security concerns.
Maintain a safe and working patrol vehicle, including scheduling routine maintenance, ensuring a neat and clean vehicle appearance, testing in-car equipment, and safe driving techniques, if assigned a School Police vehicle.
Ensure uniform and equipment are clean, functional, and within policy standards.
Perform other related duties as required/assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience
High School Diploma or its equivalent.
Certificates, Licenses and Other Special Requirements
Must have a Missouri Uniform Law Enforcement System (MULES) Certification, and pass a MULES Recertification Test every two (2) years.
Must have Missouri Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification.
Must be up to date on statutory required training.
Must pass a Drug Test.
Post Offer Job Related Physical Ability Test.
Post Offer Job Related psychological Screening Clearance.
Must pass a Criminal Background Clearance, the results of which must satisfactory to the District.
Possession of a valid Driver's License, with evidence of insurability.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of basic math; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions.
Knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include methods of investigation; and record keeping.
Skill to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to routinely upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions.
Skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job, including: administering first aid; operating standard office equipment and using pertinent software applications; operating firearms, pepper spray and police car during emergency incidents; and preparing and maintaining accurate records.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
Work environment is primarily inside, where the noise and temperature levels are moderate. Could also be under temperature extremes and under conditions with exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.
The work is medium work that requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects, including the human body.
Must possess the physical ability to do significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity.
Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, manual dexterity, mental acuity, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, and walking.
