JOB DESCRIPTION: BEHAVIOR INTERVENTIONIST
Springfield Realization Academy (SRA) is a 6 th -8 th grade school within the Springfield Empowerment Zone Partnership (SEZP) in Massachusetts. We are a dual-language school that offers a technology enhanced college preparation curriculum embedding 21 st century learning skills. We are seeking a dedicated and competent educator for the position of Behavior Interventionist. Springfield Realization Academy (SRA) provides a technology enhanced, college preparatory curriculum that is tailored to meet the needs of students in grades 6-8. Through effective instruction, including an emphasis on bilingual education, purposeful use of data, and in partnership with our families, we ensure our students develop the 21 st Century learning skills to be successful in high school, college and beyond.
Job Summary
As a learning community, one of our foundational core beliefs is that student engagement with rigorous instruction and grade level content ensures their academic success. In advancing that belief, we underscore the importance of all staff and the requirement for them to be as effective as possible in meeting the needs of their charges. The importance of this core belief is especially relevant for our exceptional scholars, scholars learning English, and scholars who are substantially academically behind. The Behavior Interventionist works with targeted students to eliminate disruptive and negative behaviors and replace them with positive behaviors and actions. S/he will be responsible for monitoring the social, emotional, and behavioral progress of students, and provide prevention, intervention, and referral services for students with social, emotional and behavioral challenges, as needed. The Behavior Interventionist reports to the principal and the and is an integral member of the Springfield Realization Academy community.
Key Responsibilities
Work collaboratively with the student’s educational team and parents to develop and implement intervention strategies (positive behavior supports) for the classroom and within the school environment that allows the student to integrate behaviorally into the school setting successfully;
Establish and maintain positive relationships and communicate with teachers, administrators, and family members
Identify and seek resolution for potential problems arising with any involved parties
Attends required meetings that discuss behavior
Work efficiently and effectively, both individually and as part of a team
Reports immediately any suspected incidents of child abuse or neglect to the Child Abuse Hotline
Participate in professional development activities to improve skills related to job assignment
Collaborate with the school leadership team to ensure all students promote social, emotional learning
Monitor social/emotional/behavioral progress of students with concrete documentation of students on caseload;
Participate in the STAT, IEP and/or §504 process as needed;
Create general strategies for behavior assessment,conflict resolution, and crisis intervention
Assist teachers daily with the students who exhibit behavioral challenges
Provide prevention, intervention, and referral for students with social/emotional/behavioral challenges;
Provide family intervention, and consult and collaborate with students, families, and outside agencies, school programs and school staff;
Responsible for evaluation and implementation of functional behavioral assessments (FBA) and behavior intervention plans (BIP), as necessary;
Other duties as required and assigned by the principal
