SPRING ARBOR UNIVERSITY is Hiring a Network and Systems Technician Near Spring, MI
SUMMARY SAU IT is looking for someone to join our team that is willing to serve in a broad capacity both with technical skills and with customer service skills. Responsibilities include managing aspects of SAU’s network and systems, and providing technical support for SAU students, faculty and staff in a timely, accurate and professional manner. This person will act as a part of the SAU service delivery team assisting clients across all areas of technology utilization. They will have the ability to analyze existing systems and make proactive recommendations for improvements.
Essential Functions
Works to resolve network and systems issue
Works to support and upgrade networks, systems, and services
Will maintain knowledge of and assist with maintenance of critical service systems.
Assist students, faculty and staff with technical support issues of hardware and software on a daily basis through support delivered face-to-face, Video conference, via phone and email.
Provide training and daily support to student technicians
Support cybersecurity efforts and encourage best practice alignment and adoption
Triage and resolve computer hardware, software and operating system problems as needed
Networking & Security
Primary support for troubleshooting network support issues
Assist with network and systems upgrades and inventory
Install and troubleshoot network cable runs and infrastructure
Assist with responding during security incidents, and with general on-going security efforts
Assist with monitoring and maintaining security related systems like computer antivirus and threat detection, monitoring security logging systems, monitoring firewall logs, and monitoring log-in activities across SAU’s systems
Performs inventories and usage monitoring of all IT assets and records all findings, changes, physical location, and incidences of support.
Project Management and Collaboration
Tracks project milestones and deliverables in project tracking tools or collaboration tools.
Serve as a critical participant in long term system maintenance projects
Document incidents, requests, and problems in SKMS and ticket system.
Participate with the security team and other teams as needed.
Other Duties & Work Conditions
May be required to work some night and weekend hours as assigned.
Occasional travel will be required for working at remote campuses and sites as needed across lower Michigan
Occasional On-call availability to support escalated incidents and critical recoveries.
Performs other duties as assigned to meet service objectives within IT.

Great communication skills and the ability to work well with both technical and non-technical team members
Knowledge of network support including routing and switching, WiFi, VPNs, and cabling and infrastructure
Proficiency in customer service and support roles
Proficient knowledge of network support including routing and switching, WiFi, VPNs, and cabling and infrastructure
Ability to provide guidance and mentorship to student employees.
Must be able to lift up to thirty pounds.

Working knowledge of cloud computing and on-premise server and datacenter maintenance
Working knowledge within the domain of Student Information Systems.
Working knowledge of IT service methodologies within Higher Education that includes Student, faculty and Academic Support.
Enterprise desktop management.
Working knowledge of workstation management
Required Education and/or Experience
Experience or certification with supporting networks and WiFi
Associate's degree or three years of related experience
Experience with troubleshooting principles, methodologies, and issue resolution techniques for IT service delivery.
Experience or certification with supporting cloud and on-prem server infrastructure and workloads
Preferred Experience
Microsoft or other IT certifications preferred.
Desktop automation experience preferred.
Powershell scripting.
Experience with service delivery within an IT standards framework such as ITIL or ITSM.
IT networking certifications preferred (Comptia Network , CCENT, CCNA, or equivalent)
Experience with administrating or troubleshooting Linux systems
Experience working with systems administration
Experience with cloud computing and cloud infrastructure
Experience with VMware Vcenter administration
