Spotsylvania County School District is Hiring a High School Paraeducator - Autism - 2024-2025 School Year Near Fredericksburg, VA

Job Summary:

The Special Education (High Incidence) Paraeducator will assist teachers and other professional practitioners by providing instructional support to further enhance the efficiency and productivity of educational environments.

Essential Functions:

  • Assist students with the organization and completion of daily work assignments
  • Assist in maintaining a safe, nurturing, and healthy atmosphere, which may include assisting students with social skill development, personal hygiene, toiletry needs/toilet training
  • Assists with crisis problems and behavior management
  • Follows established procedures for monitoring and redirecting student behavior when supervising small or large groups
  • Maintains and organizes students instructional materials and/or cumulative files
  • Administer and/or assist with preparing for various assessments for students as necessary
  • Uses special skills (i.e. sign language, transliterating, advanced computer training) to assist in two-way communication between the teacher and the student as necessary
  • Performs additional non-instructional duties including, but not limited to, cafeteria duty, bus duty, hall duty, and office duty
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the principal or designee


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of school procedures and practices
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and multitask
  • Ability to switch between tasks with ease
  • Demonstrate good communication skills, both written and oral
  • Ability to work cooperatively and build rapport with students, teachers, and parents
  • Provide support services to students and staff
  • Follow procedures as outlined by school board policy, the school principal, or designee
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times


Education and Experience:

Required

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • A minimum of two (2) years working with children within an instructional, educational or related setting

Preferred

  • Knowledge of child/adolescent development and behavior, especially those with special needs
