Spotsylvania County Public Schools is Hiring a Computer Systems Technology Instructor 10.5 Months- 2024-2025 School Year Near Fredericksburg, VA

Job Summary: The Spotsylvania Career and Technical Center is actively looking for a highly skilled Computer Systems Instructor to contribute to the training and education of the next generation of students. Instructor will develop and implement a Computer Systems Technology instructional program that will provide the best possible education for each student. Performs complex professional work in the field of Information Technology as it relates to Computer Systems and Networking. The Instructor must be able to motivate students to develop workplace readiness skills necessary for employment in the Industry. An essential function of this program is establishing relationships with the community, including students, parents, and local businesses. In addition, the instructor should be willing to support students during work-based learning opportunities.

Course Description:

Computer System Technology I: Students enter the world of computer technology and gain practical experience in assembling a computer system, installing an operating system, troubleshooting computers and peripherals, applying virtualization and cloud computing concepts, and using system tools and diagnostic software. They develop skills in computer networking and resource sharing. In addition, students explore the relationships between internal and external computer components. Upon successful completion of the course, students may qualify to take the CompTIA A certification exam

Computer System Technology II : This advanced course students build on the foundation of Computer Systems Technology I, this advanced course provides students with training in procedures for optimizing and troubleshooting concepts for computer systems and subsystems. Students explore wireless technologies (e.g., Bluetooth, Wi-Fi) and create and configure a network. Emphasis is placed on technical proficiency, skill-building, and workplace readiness. The course prepares students for postsecondary education and training and a successful career in information technology. Upon successful completion of the course, students may qualify to take CompTIA's A and Network certification exams
Essential Functions:
  • Designs instruction based upon knowledge of subject matter, current instructional practices, students, industry, and curriculum goals as outlined by the VA Department of Education Career and Technical Education Programs;
  • Evaluates students' progress; provides students with prompt specific evaluative feedback; maintains appropriate records and prepares progress reports;
  • Manages shop/lab materials and facilities in preparing students for entrance into the computer system industry.
  • Implements a classroom management policy that fosters a safe and positive environment for all students and staff;
  • Works collaboratively with staff, families, and community resources to support the success of a diverse student population;
  • Models professional, moral, and ethical standards as well as personal integrity in all interactions
  • Recruit and retain students
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Possesses an Endorsement in one or more of the following areas:
    • Computer Science
    • Electronics Technology
    • Computer Repair Technology
    • Computer Systems Technology
    • Computer Technology
  • CompTIA A Certification preferred
  • Cisco Network Academy experience preferred
  • The ability to train students to enter the world of computer technology and gain practical experience in assembling computer systems; install, configure, and secure various operating systems; troubleshoot computers and peripherals and use system tools and diagnostic software; develop skills in computer networking and resource sharing.
  • Applicant with teaching experience must have acceptable rating from such teaching
  • Possess or be eligible to acquire appropriate license(s) and/or endorsement for position as required by the Commonwealth of Virginia and School Board
Salary: This is a 10.5 month position; Salary TBD. Additional compensation awarded for credits earned toward advanced degrees. New employees to Spotsylvania County will be compensated for up to 20 years of experience.
