About the role

The Senior Engineering Manager is responsible for leading and managing a team of 10-12 engineers across two pods. The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of experience managing 5 people in a startup environment and will be technically proficient at the level of a Senior Engineer or higher.

Responsibilities:

• Manage 2 pods of 10-12 engineers total

• Work with pods to ensure that the team balances delivery timelines and quality of output

• Identify gaps in Engineering, QA, Product, Design, and other processes that hamper developer productivity

• Guide other Managers on best practices for 1:1s, performance evaluation, etc.

• Maintain strong communication, time management, context switching, active listening, and composure under stress

• Be able to deep dive into technical topics to help the team as needed and understand concepts well enough to call out overestimated or overengineered tasks

• Be able to review code for quality and reliability according to established internal practices and industry standards

• Break down technical tasks from higher-level features

• Contribute to code writing (mainly linters and process enforcement tools but more if you like)

• Work across the BE and FE stack (web/API experience preferred)

Requirements:

• At least 6 years of experience in any Engineering role

• At least 2 years of experience managing 5 people in a startup environment

• Technical proficiency at the level of a Senior Engineer or higher

• Strong communication, time management, context switching, active listening, and composure under stress
