Description

Provide and coordinate comprehensive health services to meet the needs of individual students in assigned areas.

  • ESA SCHOOL NURSE CERTIFICATE REQUIRED
  • Benefits-Medical/Dental/Vision through SEBB (School Employee Benefits Board) are provided for employees who work at least 630 hours per academic year.

SALARY SCHEDULE:

Responsibilities

  • Identify health problems of students.
  • Keep accurate health records and prepare reports and summaries as required.
  • Interpret and consult with parents, school personnel, and students concerning health problems as they relate to school performance.
  • Collaborate with school personnel, parents, and community agencies in adapting the school program to meet individual health needs of students.
  • Provide physical assessment, evaluation, consultation, intervention, and health education to individual students and/or groups of students.
  • Provide necessary health services directly to students as prescribed by licensed health care provider.
  • Collaborate with and make referrals to physicians and community agencies.
  • Act as liaison between physicians, school personnel, parents, and students regarding health concerns.
  • Act as a resource person for health instruction and provide individual and group health counseling for students.
  • Present health information to parents.
  • Gains the respect and confidence of students, parents, and staff through modeling appropriate demeanor, behavior, and attire.
  • Assist with providing health services required by law and by local and state health departments.
  • Provide management of student nurses, nursing assistants, aides, and other licensed nurses including orientation, supervision, and in-service.
  • Provide limited individual health services to school personnel.
  • Work as an effective member of the department to evaluate and improve the program.
  • Effectively use a computer for communication and managing health care in schools.
  • Perform other duties related to the school health services program as designated by the Health Services Director.

Qualifications

  • Licensed (R.N.) to practice nursing in the state of Washington.
  • Certificate in school nursing from the state of Washington.
  • Bachelor of Science in nursing from a program which included community health nursing or the equivalent of such a degree.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to clearly communicate using language that is appropriate to a variety of audiences and constituencies.
  • Supervisory experience with licensed nurses and paraprofessionals.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully problem solve and make decisions using appropriate decision-making processes.
  • Knowledge and experience of child development and related illness/health concerns effecting child health.
  • Relates positively to youth and adults of varying socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic backgrounds, different learning styles, and various disabilities.

When employees meet plan requirements and retire, they are guaranteed a monthly benefit for the rest of their life from the employer-funded pension.
