Operates equipment and performs general labor on the airfield and buildings in support of the maintenance function.
Examples of Duties / Knowledge & Skills

  • Excavates and paves with Portland cement and asphalt concrete. Repairs runways, taxiways, and roadways. Seals pavement joint and cracks.
  • Operates construction and heavy equipment.
  • Operates all snow removal equipment and performs snow and ice control duties as required.
  • Marks and stripes runways, taxiways, roads, crosswalks and parking areas.
  • Performs demolition work and landscaping maintenance repair.
  • Installs and maintains airfield signs and traffic control devices.
  • Performs other tasks as necessary to assist other crafts.
  • Provides aid and guidance to the public.
  • Observes all safety rules and performs other duties as assigned.
  • Notifies Airfield Superintendent of any job related problems including accidents and/or injuries.
  • Maintains airport areas by performing duties such as mowing, brush cutting, landscaping, irrigation, weed control activity and trash pick-up and removal.
  • Installs and repairs security fences and gates.
  • Performs minor plumbing, carpentry, painting, and janitorial work.
  • Performs pick and shovel work.
Minimum qualifications & Requirements

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION:
  • Two years labor experience.
  • Driving experience on 2 ton trucks or farm related equipment.
  • Valid state motor vehicle license with excellent driving record.
  • Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Class B or higher, free of serious or frequent traffic violations.
  • Capable of being trained to operate specialized equipment.
  • Must have public pesticide license. Individual must have at time of hire or be able to obtain within the probationary period of employment. Failure to obtain may result in termination.
  • Must have Flagger & Traffic Control Certificate. Individual must have at time of hire or be able to obtain within the first six months of employment. Failure to obtain may result in termination.
  • Familiar with construction tools, equipment, and methods.
  • Must have poise and personal bearing to deal with all people. Must be able to establish a work relationship with peers, supervisor, and public.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to operate job related equipment.
  • Must have good written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English.
  • Must be able to maintain mobility within all areas of responsibilities.
  • Position requires being able to use hands to finger, handle and feel. Must be able to reach with hands and arms.
  • Must be able to climb and balance as well as being able to stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl.
  • Must be able to talk, hear and smell.
  • Must be able to bend, twist, and lift up to fifty pounds on a regular basis. Must be able to lift 100 pounds occasionally.
SECURITY/SAFETY:
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an Airport security badge as a condition of employment.
  • This is a safety sensitive position.

WORKING CONDITIONS, TRAVEL, ENVIRONMENT AND POTENTIAL HAZARDS
  • Travel in local area. Attend education up-date classes. Work performed around hazards in the mechanical shop including moving, mechanical parts, noise, chemicals. Exposure to fumes, airborne particles, petroleum products and other chemicals. Exposure to weather extremes. Moderately noisy to loud work environment. Exposure to vibration. Hearing protection and safety glasses provided and required for some tasks.
EQUIPMENT OPERATION REQUIRED
  • Backhoe, front-end loader, high lift trucks, all assigned snow removal equipment, hand power tools and construction equipment.
Spokane Airport provides a generous benefit package. Currently, we cover the employee at 100% of the premium cost and any dependents at 70%. We offer four plan choices for medical coverage (includes vision) through Kaiser Permanente. The Airport contributes to a Health Savings Account (HSA) for high deductible plans and a Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) for the other plans. Dental coverage is through MetLife. Additionally, the Airport provides life insurance at two times the annual salary. Optional life insurance is also available. Retirement is through the Washington State Department of Retirement System - PERS Plan. he Airport provides an employee assistance program through BHO. Parking is provided.
The Airport recognizes 11 holidays. Vacation is earned at eight (8) hours a month for the first five (5) years and increases every five (5) years. Sick leave accrues at eight (8) hours a month. The Airport also provides military and jury leave.
