Position: SCADA Senior Programmer

Location: Charlottesville, VA [Travel locally within the State of Virginia]

Position Summary:

The SCADA Senior Programmer at SPN Solutions Inc. will occupy a critical role within the organization, spearheading the development, integration, and maintenance of customized Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems. As the SCADA Senior Programmer, the candidate will take responsibility for a spectrum of tasks ranging from designing Human-Machine Interface (HMI) screens to ensuring the system’s security against threats.

Required Experience & Qualifications:

• A minimum of 7 years of experience as a SCADA Programmer, preferably in a government organization.
• Proven track record of successful SCADA project implementations.
• Familiarity with industry standards in SCADA environments.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Customized SCADA Solutions Development:

• Engage with clients to understand specific operational goals and requirements.
• Design and implement custom HMI screens to facilitate efficient interaction between operators and machines.
• Develop unique data visualization tools that provide clear and actionable insights.
• Engineer control algorithms that seamlessly integrate with client’s operations.

Integration & Compatibility Assurance:

• Integrate new SCADA solutions with Clients’ existing infrastructure.
• Ensure seamless and uninterrupted communication between PLCs, RTUs, and other industrial devices.
• Oversee the transition phase to guarantee compatibility and minimal operational disruption.

Safety & Security Enforcement:

• Develop and enforce system security protocols, ensuring the safety of data and operations.
• Implement encryption techniques, access controls, and intrusion detection mechanisms.
• Periodically review and update security measures in response to evolving threats and industry standards.

On-Call Support & Troubleshooting:

• Provide 24/7 support to the client, ensuring operational continuity.
• Address initial queries and, if necessary, escalate to specialized experts for efficient resolution.
• Offer both remote and on-site technical assistance, depending on the severity of the issues.

Leading Instrumentation Integration and Project Execution:

• Conduct thorough assessments of the existing infrastructure to understand the specifics of each instrument and devise strategies for efficient integration with the SCADA system.
• Oversee calibration and testing post-integration to guarantee accurate data collection and communication.
• Manage projects from end-to-end, from initial requirement gathering to post-implementation support, ensuring transparency and stakeholder engagement through regular status updates and milestone tracking.

Project Management:

• Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and provide regular status updates.
• Track project milestones, ensuring timely execution and stakeholder engagement.
• Address any project-related issues promptly, maintaining the highest quality standards.

Examples of Related Tasks:

• Developing and updating documentation for SCADA system designs, protocols, and procedures.
• Training junior programmers and operators on SCADA system functionalities and best practices.
• Collaborating with other departments to ensure that SCADA system objectives align with organizational goals.
• Reviewing industry advancements and recommending updates or modifications to existing SCADA systems.
