Job Summary:

The Laboratory Technician I must be team oriented, proactive, and goal driven. This position will perform a standard set of physical property testing, chemical composition testing, sampling, sample receipt and data report generation functions. The associate participates in the on-call rotation for their specified lab.

Responsibilities:

  • Receive and log samples with proficiency into the computer system;
  • Calculate and report data results using computer software system;
  • Clean laboratory glassware and equipment as needed; 
  • Assist with Statistical Quality Control testing and calibrations;
  • Obtain representative samples at various client locations such as tanks and gas pumps;
  • Adheres to SPL safety policies; 
  • Assist with general housekeeping of the facility; 
  • May prepare data and reports for review by senior personnel;
  • Keeping neat and accurate records;
  • Keeping work area clean and free of safety hazards; 
  • Attain a working knowledge of chemistry and industry terminology;
  • Perform routine maintenance for all SPL equipment used including PC, scanners, instrumentation, parts, fittings, and sample cylinders;
  • Perform sample and QC analyses as specified by the test method, and ensure that all relevant and/or required information is properly documented and recorded; 
  • Perform review/interpretation of results to verify that data is accurate and reasonable; 
  • Perform analytical calculations for reporting data into LIMS;
  • Compare current data with historical data in LIMS to spot problem samples and notify the client as necessary;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 0-3 years’ experience;
  • Must be proficient in MS Office;
  • Must maintain strict compliance with SPL/Client Safety, QC and Ethics Policies; 
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Outlook, Excel, Adobe Acrobat and the Internet;
  • Must be able to operate PC and input data information into LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System);
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and perform efficiently under time constraints; 
  • Must learn Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s), Methods, Test Procedures as required for daily operation;
  • Must be willing to cross train as required;
  • Must be able to communicate effectively – both verbally and in writing;
  • Must be a team player;
  • Willing and able to work in a fast-paced environment and able to multi-task;
  • Must be detail oriented and able to prioritize assignments.

Education:

High school diploma or GED - Associates Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry or other science is strongly preferred.

Relocation:

This position is not eligible for relocation.

Travel Requirements:

This position does not require travel.

Work Schedule:

This position will work 10-12 hours, Monday-Friday in the Arlington, TX Office. This position is subject to overtime availability to meet deadlines.
