Title: Front Desk Specialist

Reports to: Practice Administrator

Location – onsite

Hours: Monday- Friday 7:45am-4:30/5:30pm

The Spire network spans the Northeast with more than 1,300 employees, 130 physicians, and 28 locations in Connecticut, New York, and Massachusetts.

What you’ll do:

Serves as initial person to greet, instruct, and direct all patients visiting or calling the office – utilizing skills of tact, diplomacy and confidentiality in a professional manner. Greets patients, schedules appointments, answers telephone, verifies and updates registration and collects payments. Interacts frequently with physicians and staff.

Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Answering and triaging incoming calls
  • Check in patients for their appointments (verify insurance information, referrals, demographics, etc)
  • Covering charts (last office note, diagnostic test results, lab results, etc)
  • Verify insurance eligibility.
  • Collect copayments and outstanding balances (batch and balance at end of day)
  • Verify that all test results and office notes are available for the patient’s appointment.
  • Bring patients to exam rooms if needed.
  • Cover co-workers’ vacation/sick/personal time
  • Perform closing tasks (stay with a co-worker until the providers are finished) in the office one night every other week.
  • Other duties as assigned by managers and leads.

Who you are:

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED Required.
  • One-year medical office experience. Health care receptionist experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA and other regulatory policies
  • Knowledge of Insurance regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Knowledge of medical office procedures, policies, practices and medical terminology, telephone protocol and professional etiquette
  • Knowledge of electronic medical systems is a plus, including Athena/Centricity, Medi-Tech and the like.
  • Strong communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Extensive customer service experience
  • Proven ability to multi-task
  • Computer skills, being proficient with Windows based software.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think quickly, professional, and efficiently.
  • Ability to represent our organization in a professional manner.
