English as an Additional Language Job Description:
SPIRE Academy seeks an experienced English as an Additional Language (EAL)/English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher. With an inclusive perspective, this person possesses experience as an EAL/ESL teacher supporting students in developing English language skills (reading, writing, speaking and listening). This teacher will be knowledgeable and experienced in current immersive language development, express a willingness to collaborate with content teachers, and support the professional development of faculty, coaches, house parents and staff on language development and cultural responsiveness. This teacher will organize courses for non-native speakers, support faculty and coaches in accommodating curriculum for accessibility, initiate off campus cultural experiences for students, and communicate with stakeholders of these students. This teacher will help develop summer opportunities for language immersion.
Desired Qualities
· Undergraduate Degree (BA/BS) required; master’s degree preferred.
· 3-5 years teaching experience with non-native speakers
· Current license/ TEFL certification
· Google Classroom experience
· Strong interpersonal skills and ability to cultivate positive relationships with stakeholders
· Experience writing curriculum
· Organizational and time management skills
· Calm, patient and resilient demeanor
· Ability to teach students ranging in age from 14 - 20
· Ability to work after hours, holidays and weekends as needed
Essential Duties
· Review applicants and give feedback on ability for SPIRE to support potential candidate
· Administer academic and language assessments for the purpose of evaluating student progress for meeting academic learning targets and progress in language acquisition
· Create curriculum for non-native speakers to improve (reading, writing, listening and speaking) skills
· Prepare classroom and course materials relevant to academic language acquisition, as well as conversational and appropriate athletic language acquisition
· Develop summer enrichment language program for students and families interested in English language acquisition
· Assign and grade homework, projects and assessments relevant to the learning of English
· Collaborate with content area teachers in order to preview and pre-teach materials prior to the student experiencing the information in core content courses
· Communicate with parents and key stakeholders the progress of students developing English language
· Research and stay current on new methods and trends for teaching English to non-native speakers
· Create a supportive and positive learning environment
· Maintain appropriate records using Learning Management and Student Management System
· Establish and maintain standards of student behavior required to run an orderly and productive classroom environment
· Oversee assigned out-of-classroom activities during the school day, including cultural experiences for non-native speakers

Pay: $45,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
