We are seeking an experienced Accounting Controller with a background in manufacturing operations and proficiency in Great Plains accounting software. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing the financial activities of our organization, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in all accounting processes. The Accounting Controller will play a critical role in financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and analysis, providing insights to support strategic decision-making. This position requires strong leadership skills, attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

1. Financial Reporting: Prepare and analyze financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements. Ensure timely and accurate reporting in compliance with GAAP and company policies.

2. Budgeting and Forecasting: Collaborate with senior management to develop annual budgets and financial forecasts. Monitor variances, identify trends, and provide insights to support decision-making.

3. Cost Accounting: Oversee cost accounting activities, including inventory valuation, standard costing, and variance analysis. Implement strategies to optimize cost efficiencies and enhance profitability.

4. Month-End and Year-End Close: Manage month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and accruals. Ensure adherence to deadlines and accuracy in financial reporting.

5. Internal Controls: Establish and maintain effective internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. Conduct periodic audits and risk assessments to mitigate financial risks.

6. Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvement and automation within the accounting function. Streamline workflows, eliminate redundancies, and enhance efficiency through technology solutions.

7. Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor accounting staff, providing guidance and support to foster professional development and ensure team cohesion. Delegate tasks effectively to maximize productivity and performance.

8. Financial Analysis: Conduct in-depth financial analysis to support strategic initiatives and business decisions. Evaluate key performance indicators (KPIs), profitability drivers, and trends to drive continuous improvement.

9. External Relationships: Serve as a primary point of contact for external auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory agencies. Facilitate audits, respond to inquiries, and ensure compliance with statutory requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in accounting roles, with at least 2 years in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in Great Plains accounting software (Microsoft Dynamics GP) is strongly preferred but SQL database experience is required.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP principles, financial reporting standards, and internal controls.
  • Demonstrated experience in cost accounting, inventory management, and variance analysis.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and provide actionable insights.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other financial software applications.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally and lead a team.
  • Detail-oriented mindset with a commitment to accuracy, integrity, and continuous improvement.
