About the Role
Spectrum provides treatment and detention support for youth aged 12 - 20 in a highly secure facility. We are looking for a responsible Security Supervisor who not only supervises the work of others but can also provide coaching, resolve issues, and serve as a link between subordinates and upper management.
The ideal candidate will be a great communicator who can guide and train employees. Security Supervisors are on-the-floor leaders who observe and provide feedback to promote growth in the Security Workers they supervise. They ensure proper coverage and that Security Workers are in position and respond as needed to ensure the security of the facility and the safety of youth residents and staff alike.
Successful security supervisors understand policies and are well-versed in facility processes. The goal is to maintain an environment that promotes growth and engagement in Spectrum’s mission to become the provider of choice for high-secure treatment and detention services in Michigan.
This position oversees an assigned shift of Security workers and transportation activities. Ensures proper safety and security for the facility, including residents, staff, visitors, and the community. Monitors the program technologies employed by the agency and ensures efficient, effective, and appropriate application. The Security Supervisor ensures strict adherence to program policies and program procedures. Responsible for properly training assigned employees and must review their progress or retrogression. Makes appraisals and recommendations on the status of safety, security, personnel, projects, and activities to the Facility Manager and the Director of Operations and Support Services. Performs other work as assigned by the Facility Manager and Center Director. Supervises, directs, and provides security, safety, and welfare to the youth as required by the State of Michigan laws, Child Welfare Licensing requirements, and applicable standards as found in the SJJS Procedure Manual and Spectrum’s Policies and Procedures.

Treatment is guided by a developmentally informed conceptualization of each youth’s risks and needs and utilizes a multimodal and multi-pronged approach.
