Job Description

Responsibilities:
● Behavior Technician will assist in maintaining a welcoming atmosphere for all members, prospective members, guests and ensuring staff follows superior customer service guidelines
● Provides specialized behavior analytic interventions to children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in Spectra’s therapy clinic and gym.
● Demonstrates competency in areas of class & behavior management, safety and child development
● Use appropriate instructional and teaching strategies to implement age appropriate activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of each individual student
● Behavior Technician will manage and promote positive child behavior by implementing a variety of teaching strategies to include: preventative, supportive & corrective discipline techniques, positive reinforcement and other teaching strategies in SpectrAbilities. This may include intervening in crisis situations and physically assisting students as necessary

● Completes necessary documentation including collecting data, evaluations, treatment notes, progress reports and exit summaries; keeps updated with other site, program, and participant-related documents and reports. Prepares materials for meetings and provides child-related communication to caregivers, the program team, physicians, and other health care providers, as appropriate.

● Provides parent education and coordinates specialized training and instructional materials for caregivers.

● Collaborate and communicate with staff, supervisors, therapist’s, parents, and other family members to provide solid recommendations for individual student growth, express successes (“proud moments”) and occasional challenges

● Consult with parents regarding student progress, use effective communication skills with parents and students to promote an inclusive culture. (avoid negativity, use student-focused language to avoid labeling a person’s medical condition or diagnosis)

● Build rapport and lasting relationships with members. Embrace hospitality and drive the Spectra Culture
● Maintain confidentiality per HIPPA compliance of all member information: verbal, online and on personal electronic devices
● Adhere to ethics code of BACB (Behavior Analyst Certification Board)
● Maintain emotional control under stress
● Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling
● Attends staff meetings, in-service, treatment plans, trainings, and other meetings as required.
● Demonstrate ability to safely utilize and teach with all Spectra gym equipment. (Inflatables, spotting, social distancing, etc.)
● Remains current regarding new research, current trends and developments in autism, special education and related fields.
● Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

● Hard working, passionate, enthusiastic and energetic! Superior customer service skills
● At least 1 year of either professional or personal experience with children. Preference given to experience working with children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder and/or other developmental disabilities

● Demonstrate or quickly acquire competency in approaches to intervention, based on the science of Applied Behavior Analysis; competency in employing and directing behavior analytic methodologies, including discrete trial and naturalist teaching procedures, differential reinforcement, continuous and discontinuous measurement, and crisis/emergency procedures.

● Must possess basic computer skills. Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft/Google applications. Must be able to learn and use iPad and/or other assigned devices.

● Ability to maintain positive customer interaction and professionalism, communicate effectively through oral and written skills, and work cooperatively with a variety of individuals and groups; demonstrated ability to interact well with children and their families, and to maintain a positive effect.

● CPR/First Aid Certification required OR to complete with Spectra within 10 days of hire
● High school diploma/GED equivalent
● Associates Degree OR currently enrolled in an accredited college/university. Preference for degree programs related to psychology, early childhood education, behavior therapy, or related field.
● Behavior Technician Must be able to occasionally lift up to 25 lbs
● Ability to demonstrate good judgment, exercise discretion, and maintain a high level of confidentiality in handling sensitive situations and documentation.
● Ability to provide proof of required vaccinations.
● Ability to obtain and maintain a criminal record/fingerprint clearance from the Department of Justice and Federal Bureau of Investigation per Spectra ABA and/or program requirements.
● Ability to travel locally; maintain driving record in compliance with Transportation Safety Standards; maintain auto insurance and vehicle registration
