Special Needs Unlimited is Hiring a Direct Support Professional/Vocational Instructor (FT) Near Baker, LA

Direct Support Professional/Vocational Instructor - We work directly with individuals with intellectual disabilities and/or physical disabilities assisting the individual to become self-sufficient and integrated into his/her community by providing support with simple pre-vocational, vocational, and day habilitation skills, care in a manner that promotes dignity, physical and mental health wellbeing. The DSP/Vocational Instructor assists the individual to lead a self-directed life while encouraging attitudes and behaviors which enhance community inclusion. Supporting a person with a disability may include work, school, church, and other community places. A DSP also acts as an advocate for the individual supported to communicate their needs, self-expression, and goals. Our DSPs/Vocational Instructors work Monday-Friday, 7 am-3 pm.
Job Duties:
  • Complete required program orientation and training, and demonstrate competency.
  • Participation in the development of the ISP (plan of care and individual support plan).
  • Implement the goals of the habilitation plan to promote an Active Treatment Plan.
  • Provide personal care services to the individual, per the ISP.
  • Assist individuals to develop social, recreational, and other independent living skills as appropriate.
  • Report and communicate changes in an individual's condition to a supervisor immediately upon discovery of the change.
  • Report and communicate an individual's request for services or change in services to a supervisor within 24 hours of the business day of such request.
  • Follow emergency medical training while attending the individual.
  • Subsequently report any medical or other types of emergencies to the supervisor, the provider, or others, pursuant to the provider policies and procedures.
  • Report any suspected abuse, neglect, or exploitation of individuals to a supervisor immediately upon discovery, and as required by law.
  • Be trained on daily documentation, such as progress notes and other reports.
  • Maintaining prescribed progress notes, timesheets, and respective documentation of all important events or changes during shifts worked timely, accurately, and legibly.
  • Assist in transportation needs for work and community activities when applicable.
  • Maintain First Aid Certification and all other continuing training requirements as defined by agency policies and local or federal regulations.
  • Represent the agency in a professional manner (individual supported, community).
Job Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Possess a current Driver’s license, insurance, and reliable transportation.
  • Valid proof of car insurance and annual inspection stickers.
  • A minimum of one year’s experience working with individuals (s) with disabilities or having a combination of work experience and education.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrate ability to work as a team player.
Physical Requirements:
The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds with heavier weight necessary at times. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to varying weather conditions.
