Physician Assistant

General Summary:

Under the supervision of physician, performs medical examinations, selected diagnostic and therapeutic tasks and other procedures to assist in the delivery of medical services to patients.

Essential Job Functions*:

• Work directly with physician in management of patient caseload
• Takes medical histories and performs examinations, utilizing diagnostic techniques such as observation, palpation, percussion or auscultation
• Evaluates physical signs, symptoms and medical history to assess patient’s condition
• Under the supervision of physician, orders and interprets laboratory tests and radiological examinations
• Recognizes and evaluates patients who require the immediate attention of a physician and when necessary, initiates, without supervision, emergency medical treatments
• Performs therapeutic procedures under the supervision of a physician
• Administers treatment and medications prescribed by physician
• Instructs and counsels patients in matters pertaining to their physical and mental health
• Maintains and signs medical records pertaining to treatments and examinations administered
• Documents appropriately in electronic medical record
• Participates in continuing medical education
• Complies with hospital and departmental policies, procedures, regulations and standards as related to job
• Demonstrates hospital’s stated mission and values of teamwork, respect and communication with co-workers, patients, families and visitors
• Actively and appropriately participates in problem-solving identification and resolution, both intra- and inter-departmentally
• Meets department customer service standards and strives to enhance the level of customer service provided

Qualifications:

• Education

Required: Bachelor of Science degree and graduate of American Medical Association approved Physician Assistant Program

• Licensure/Certifications/Registrations

Required: - New Hampshire Board of Medicine licensure to practice as a

Physician Assistant.
