Job Description
Purpose of Job:
Coordinate regional transport services for the RNICU and facilitate nursing orientation and education in RNICU. Develops, plan and implements educational activities to foster the advancements of competencies and prof development in nursing caregivers.
Essential Duties:
- Staff scheduling
- Provide continuing education for members of transport team and evaluate individual team member transport skills/competencies
- Equipment evaluation and maintenance
- Patient follow-up and case reviews for regional referral hospitals
- Provide Continuing Education for transport nurses, EMT's, RT's involved in RNICU transports
- Conduct minimally quarterly staff meetings and coordinate team communications
- Develop transport protocols with annual up-date/review
- Participate in health system transport committees
- Identify, conduct, evaluate services for performance improvement
- Participate in Outreach education as needed/requested. Maintain positive relationship with community hospitals.
- Maintain clinical competency through the provision of patient care in the RNICU.
- Insure all standards and guidelines related to neonatal transports are met.
- Work with the Medical Director and nurse Manager to market services in the region.
- Serves as a role model for consistent demonstration of Sparrow health System's Customer service behavioral standards of performance, by respecting the privacy and confidentiality of those we serve.
- Provides new hire (to RNICU) orientation including assigning preceptors.
- Evaluate and Provide RNICU caregivers continuing education opportunities with input from Nursing Department Manager.
- Provides NRP courses as an instructor (if not current instructor, become certified instructor within 6 months of moving into position.
Job Requirements
General Requirements | Current licensure to practice nursing in Michigan as a registered nurse. Current certification in Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing (If does not hold certification will obtain within 6 months of hire) Attend/pass S.T.A.B.L.E. instructor course by 1 year of hire. Current NRP card. Current BLS card. NRP instructor (if not current instructor within 6 months of hire) |
Work Experience | Minimum of 5 years, RNICU bedside experience. Neonatal Transport Experience preferred NRP Instructor experience preferred. S.T.A.B.L.E. instructor preferred Previous educator experience preferred |
Education | Graduation from an approved school of nursing with a BSN MSN preferred |
Specialized Knowledge and Skills | Strong communication skills Demonstrates ability to use a keyboard/computer as may be required to perform the essential duties of the job. Ability to teach individuals as well as groups of caregivers. Ability to work independently under the direction of RNICU Nurse Manager and Nursing Director. |
