Spark is Hiring an Activity Specialist Near Heath, OH

SPARK, is a recreational provider for Adults and Developmental Disabilities. Each day is filled with excitement, laughter and plenty of smiles. As Direct Support Professionals, our role is too provide mentorship and leadership for the participants that attend our program. Through activities, community offerings, and socialization; we help the participants dreams become reality. Whether it's taking a group to Cosi, the bowling ally, or spending a day at the park. Our objective is to stay active in the community and ensure every participant has the chance to engage.

In addition to the direct support care, all staff are required to help provide transportation to-and-from our location. Transportation is provided in small-transit vehicles and/or mini-vans. Driving these vehicles requires no special training or license. Our transportation routes are typically under an hour and very routine.

Job Description – Activity Specialist (DSP)

Position Summary: Organize, execute and assist consumers with daily activities. Ensure that individuals are involved in activities throughout the day and assist individuals with these activities. This includes but is not limited to: art and craft activities, action plans/outcome goals(on a daily basis and assure the frequency for each individual is met), vocational trainings, restroom assistance if needed and daily paperwork documentation assigned by management. Cooperate with supervisor’s requests to perform tasks that may not be listed as standard duties. Job duties and schedules will vary and change. Ensure and assist individuals in participant- direction, making their own choices and providing person-centered supports. Employees are expected to be flexible and cooperate with the needs of SPARK.

Essential Functions:

  • Organize, lead and promote interest in recreation and vocational activities such as arts and crafts, team building, continued education, self-advocacy events, group activities, vocational training opportunities and self-directed projected led by the individuals SPARK serves.
  • Assist and lead craft projects, games, Studio SPARK projects, vocational and employment training opportunities, self-advocacy groups, community integrated activities and other daily events.
  • Ensure that the individuals are engaged at all times and being productive as well as happy.
  • Ensure that the individual has daily choice and participant direction.
  • Have knowledge of person-centered thinking and planning. Be able to assist individuals in person-centered supports.
  • Aid in arrival and dismal procedures for the individuals SPARK serves.
  • Work independently on assigned projects with individuals as well as in a team when applicable.
  • Support in socialization and discussions of important issues with the individuals SPARK serves.
  • Knowledge of individuals Imagine Plan, ISP, Discovery, Emergency Medical, and Behavior Support Plans if applicable.
  • Redirecting individuals to proactively avoid behavioral issues and address any issues that may arise.
  • When applicable understand and address concerns that may arise from individual’s home/living condition. Reports any issues that warrant reporting to supervisor.
  • Prepare and maintain records of progress and services performed, reporting changes in client condition to manager or supervisor.
  • Assist and maintain order when taking individuals into community integrated settings.
  • Assist individuals with restroom assistance and needs.
  • Assist individuals with meal preparation as needed.
  • If have Medication Administration training will perform the duties assigned by supervisor.
  • Transport individuals on outings in SPARK passenger vans.

  • Monitoring: Monitoring/ assessing performance of yourself, other individuals or organizations to make improvements or take actions.
  • Oral Comprehension: The ability to listen and understand as well as ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
  • Problem Sensitivity: The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $14.00 - $17.00 per hour
