SpaceWorks Enterprises, Inc. is seeking a talented and experienced mid-career propulsion engineer to join our team. Technical tasks and near-term activities include design, manufacturing, integration, and sub-scale testing of a novel propulsion system. Hands-on test and integration skills are required. The position is full-time and will be located at our facilities in Atlanta, GA.

The Propulsion Engineer will work within a small team of engineers on the design, development, testing, and evaluation of a new propulsion system. Specific emphasis will be placed on ability to support rapid design, fabrication, integration and testing of the system. The successful candidate should be experienced in the design of flight hardware with knowledge of fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and thermal analysis in dynamic environments. The position will span a broad range of product life cycle development from concept design, to sub-scale ground test, sub-scale flight test, and ultimately full-scale engine development.

A DAY IN THE LIFE

  • Design, analyze, source, fabricate, integrate, and test propulsion system components, including thrust chambers, ignition systems, valves, insulation, and seals
  • Support mechanical, electrical, and fluid integration of system elements, including liquid propulsion systems, propellant tanks, and pressurization systems
  • Hands-on installation and ground test of liquid propellant rockets
  • Create and execute test procedures for performance assessment and model validation/calibration
  • Utilize written and verbal communications skills to interact with external suppliers and customers
  • Brief customers within the industry and U.S. government on program status, system attributes, technical achievements, and the development roadmap

The position is a full-time salaried job and will be located at our Dekalb Technology Parkway facility in Atlanta, GA. WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR 

  • BS degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or similar
  • Hands-on experience in liquid rocket engine integration and testing
  • Fundamental understanding of dynamic environments including shock, vibration, and acoustic loads
  • Proficiency in computer aided design tools such as Solid Edge, Unigraphics NX, Solid Works, CATIA, and/or PTC Creo
  • Proficiency in finite element modeling and optimization including tools such as ANSYS, FEMAP, NASTRAN, and/or Abaqus
  • Must be eligible for DoD Security Clearance
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)

SKILLS & SOFTWARE

  • Demonstrate strategic and innovative thinking with strong technical leadership skills
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary, collaborative environment typical of a small business 
  • Desire to lead and manage individual contributors
  • Possess strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Expertise with Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Project

BONUS POINTS IF YOU HAVE...

  • MS degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or similar background
  • 5 years of relevant work experience in launch vehicle, aircraft, or spacecraft systems
  • Experience designing structures compatible with cryogenic and non-cryogenic fluids
  • Experience with pipe/tube routing and/or flexibility analysis
  • Proficiency with transient fluid network modeling including tools such as GFSSP and/or ROCETS
  • Familiarity with modeling in Python, C/C , Fortran and/or MATLAB
  • Familiarity with aerospace fluid components (fittings, check valves, solenoid valves, relief valves, regulators, etc.)
  • Familiarity with measurement devices (pressure transducers, thermocouples, RTDs, strain gages, etc.)
  • Experience with GD&T per ASME Y14.5
  • Interest in a variety of aerospace propulsion systems including rockets, RDREs, cold gas thrusters, turboramjets, and scramjets
