Summary Description:
Controls the operation of electric induction furnaces to melt ferrous and non-ferrous alloys.
Essential Functions:
Ø Regulates the temperature of the furnace while introducing metals and alloys to make ductile iron.
Ø Pour molten iron from the furnace into ladle, maintaining a steady flow and rate to ensure quality and safety demands.
Ø Record temperature and treatment additions for quality control requirements.
Ø Removal of slag from 2800 degree molten iron using heavy steel tools.
Ø Perform general housekeeping duties.
Ø Perform any and all other job related tasks as assigned by management.
Skills or Experience Required:
High School diploma or GED required; experience in a foundry or manufacturing environment is preferred.
Other Position Demands or Requirements:
Math, computer and communication skills are necessary. Must be able to understand and follow verbal and written instructions. Physical work includes: (the work is classified as Heavy Physical Demand Level (PDL) by the US Dept. of Labor’s Dictionary of Occupational Titles). Frequencies: Occasional (1-33%); Frequent (34-66%); Continuous (67-100%)
LIFTING DEMANDS:
Ø Lift 100 lbs. on an occasional basis floor to waist
Ø Lift 75 lbs. on an occasional basis floor to chest
Ø Lift 50 lbs. on an occasional basis floor to shoulder
Ø Carry 75 lbs. on an occasional basis up to 25 feet
POSTURAL DEMANDS:
Ø Standing – frequent to continuous
Ø Walking – occasional to frequent
Ø Bending/stooping – occasional
Ø Squatting/kneeling – occasional
MISCELLANEOUS DEMANDS:
Ø Lift / push and pull are required.
Ø Working conditions include heat, smoke, and dust.
Ø PPE is required.
