Southwestern Community Action Council is a private non-profit agency whose mission is to facilitate the social and economic well-being of low-income families in Cabell, Lincoln, Mason, and Wayne counties in West Virginia. We are a leader in the development and provision of a variety of community programs and services provided by qualified, highly trained, client focused staff. Our programs include Early Head Start / Head Start, the Mason County Homeless Shelter, Weatherization Assistance, Case Management / Homemaker Services, Senior Community Services (Mature Worker), and Veteran Supportive Services.

We are currently looking for a General (Manual) Laborer for our Weatherization Assistance Program.

Qualifications

Current, valid driver’s license with safe driving record. Must be able to climb ladders and work from various heights. Be able to work on roofs, in attics and crawl spaces. Use of basic hand tools (saws, hammers, screw drivers, drills, staple gun, etc). Apply hands-on practice on the job site. Able to lift up to 50lbs. Capable of understanding oral and written instructions. Must pass drug screen and background check.

Preferred Qualifications

High School Diploma/Equivalent. Experience in carpentry and materials.

Position Details

(This is a sampling of duties and responsibilities of this position & does not include all other duties that may be assigned.)

Basic building performance. Use common safety protocols. Prepare homes/buildings for seasonal weather. Repairing ductwork, preparing attics, installing hot water jackets, wrapping pipes, repairing low flow shower heads, etc. Understand basic machine and tool maintenance. Loading, unloading, and organizing materials. Cleaning up job site once work is completed. Professional interaction with clients and staff. Attend trainings and meetings as required.
