Responsibilities :

Primary responsibilities are to perform structural fitting functions with following objectives :

• Perform structural fitter assignments as assigned.
• Work safe and maintain a safe working environment.
• Notify foreman or supervisor of any safety and / or structural issues as warranted.

Duties :

• Duties include, but are not limited to :
• Lays out, positions, aligns and fits together fabricated structural steel plate according to customer specifications and direction from Foreman / Supervisor.
• Required to move parts into position, manually, by hoist or crane, and align parts, using jacks, etc.
• May be required to remove high spots and cut bevels, using hand files, portable grinders, and / or cutting torch, as well as give directions to the welder to build up low spots or short pieces.
• May, at times, be required to tack weld, as necessary.
• Consults with foreman or supervisor regarding installation or repair problems, sequence of operations, and time required to complete repair and / or installation
• Attend safety meetings as required
• Maintain a safe working environment
• Other duties as assigned

Education, Experience and Training :

• Minimum one year experience as a structural fitter (shipyard experience preferred, but not required)
• Be able to perform simple paper work as required for filling out forms and logs.

Special Requirements / Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

• Mandatory drug testing prior to employment, and will be subject to random, unannounced drug and / or alcohol tests during employment.
• Must be able to communicate and take directions from Foreman & Supervisor.
• Must have good judgment skills, and a high-level work initiative;
• Must be able to meet strict attendance requirements

Physical / Environmental Requirements :

• Barge chemical environment. Requires prolonged kneeling, standing, walking, twisting, climbing, and the ability to lift and carry in access of 120 lbs, assisted.
• Ability to work in varied conditions (i.e. : heat, cold, rain, ice, snow, etc.), inside and outside.
• Able to work in confined space, heights and operate equipment efficiently and safely.
