We are hiring for our Gilbert location: 3645 S Rome St Gilbert, AZ 85297

Position Summary

Working in partnership with SMIL physicians and staff, and our referring physicians, the Breast Patient Navigator serves as an educator who provides information, facilitates scheduling appointments for imaging and follow-up, explains and clarifies testing and results and serves as a link in connecting patients with appropriate resources. The Navigator is available to offer personalized care to our patients at all stages of breast cancer.

Detailed Responsibilities

  • Requires the ability to work independently often, as well as be a contributing member of the healthcare team.
  • Requires assisting in general diagnostic, special procedures, ultrasound, CT, PET, MR, Nuclear Medicine and mammography procedures.
  • Contacts patients to obtain necessary pertinent information/medical history for upcoming appointments.
  • Facilitates communication between patient, radiologists and other healthcare providers for assigned patients.
  • Explains procedures and treatments to patient to gain cooperation, understanding, and diminish patient apprehension.
  • Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing standards, policies, procedures and protocols.
  • Maintains awareness of comfort and safety needs of patient.
  • Observes patient, obtains/monitors vital signs, records significant findings and notifies appropriate chain of command of patient's condition, deviations from normal, reaction to drugs, response to treatments and significant incidents.
  • Responds to urgent/emergent/life-saving situations based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures and protocols.
  • Documents all patient information in appropriate areas of medical record.
  • Helps positively promote/market the services provided by the company to patients and healthcare providers.
  • Requires flexibility to work at multiple locations.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree (B.S.) preferred, or Associate's degree (A. A.)
  • Certified Breast Patient Navigator preferred OR
    • Successful completion of Breast Patient Navigator certificate as administered by the National Consortium of Breast Centers within 6 months of hire.
  • Excellent IV placement and chest port access skills required
  • Radiology experience preferred

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Current AZ State Board of Nursing Registered Nurse License
  • BLS certification
  • ACLS certification

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to walk. The employee is required to sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and smell. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
