DEPARTMENT: PATIENT FINANCIAL SERVICES
F ACILITY: Medical Office Building

SUMMARY:
Greets patients, receives payment for the patient’s liability of hospital bill and/or clinic visits, issues receipt to patient and/or patient’s representative, and ensures proper account number is on the receipt. Conducts patient interviews, assist with financial assistance applications and makes payment arrangements to assist patients with resolution of their account balances.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Adheres to confidentiality directives.
  • Answers questions from patients and/or guarantors regarding account status.
  • Collects payments and gives receipt to patient with proper account number and balance.
  • Copies all checks making certain the copy is legible.
  • Distributes mail to other areas accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Establishes payment plans.
  • Flags accounts as CBA Legal after review.
  • Greets patients and visitors in a friendly and positive manner.
  • Keeps supervisor informed of work related activities and problems including necessary supplies and/or equipment needs.
  • Notes all activity on accounts in billing system.
  • Prepares deposit for all payments within 1 business day of receipt.
  • Prints cash batch reports daily.
  • Receiving and posts all payments into the billing system accurately and timely.
  • Stays logged into the ACD phone system and answers calls as they come in.
  • Uses appropriate break codes for ACD phone system.
  • Works monthly settlement reports from vendors for accurate balance reporting on accounts.
  • Works queues in timely manner.
  • Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and facility regulations, laws and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.
  • Understands and adheres to compliance standards as they appear in the Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct, and Conflicts of Interest Policy.
  • Demonstrates age-specific skills as required by position.
  • Offers suggestions on ways to improve operations of department and reduce costs.
  • Attends all mandatory education programs.
  • Improves self-knowledge through voluntarily attending continuing education/certification classes.
  • Maintains required competency levels as identified in written exams, skills checklists, skills labs, annual safety and health requirements as well as service excellence education hours requirements.
  • Willing to cross-train in order to better assist co-workers and to provide maximum efficiency in department.
  • Volunteers/participates on hospital committees, functions, and department projects.
  • Manages resources effectively.
  • Reports equipment in need of repair in order to extend life of equipment.
  • Makes good use of time so as to not create needless overtime.
EDUCATION:
* High School Diploma or Equivalent
OTHER INFORMATION:
Minimum Twelve (12) months of Customer Service Experience required. Health Care setting Customer Service Experience preferred.
