Southside School District is Hiring a Lead Toddler Teacher Near Batesville, AR

Position: Classroom Lead Teacher Classified Position

Program: Southside School Child Care

Immediate Supervisor: Director or Assistant Director

Status: Full Time

Summary: Provide educational and developmental curriculum in order to promote child’s cognitive and intellectual skill development. Classroom teacher must be able to demonstrate competency in the areas of developmentally appropriate programming, curriculum development, and daily classroom management. A classroom teacher is an individual who provides support to the teacher assistant and children. A classroom teacher works under the supervision and guidance of the director. 

Education/ Experience/Requirements:

  1. Child Development Associates (CDA) Certificate of Proficiency (COP), Associates in Early Childhood or an Associates degree with a minimum of (12) hours in early childhood education or equivalent thereof.
  2. Good communication and organizational skills.
  3. Ability to provide timely and cohesive documentation in designated data management systems.
  4. Must pass maltreatment, criminal background and FBI check.
  5. Attend all required training and meetings assigned.
  6. Willingness to endure exposure to inclement weather.
  7. Ability to remain calm in stressful conditions. Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
  8. Must be able to lift twenty (20) pounds from the floor while in a standing position.
  9. Must be able to reorient from a sitting position on the floor to a standing position without assistance.

Primary Job Function:

  1. Provide planning and implementation of appropriate early childhood educational experiences with a variety of material in the fields of art, music, literature, science, and mathematics.
  2. Develop a daily schedule to promote developmentally appropriate activities.
  3. Develop lesson plans/thematic units in order to give the children the opportunity to participate daily in individual and group activities, which provides the experience for language-reasoning enrichment skills; fine and gross motor activities; creative experiences; and social development.
  4. Be responsible for completing the ELS checklist on each child in the classroom in order to determine the developmental performance level of the child.
  5. Be responsible for all required documentation and reporting forms on the children.
  6. Work with parents to promote understanding of growth and developmental of their child; conduct parent/teacher conferences; encourage parents to participate in the classroom and with other activities at Southside Preschool when appropriate.
  7. Supervise all children’s activities to ensure safety and appropriateness.
  8. Supervise and direct parents, volunteers, and substitutes who may be assigned to the classroom.
  9. Provide and maintain a neat and organized classroom; assist in the responsibility for the upkeep of all equipment and materials in the classroom.
  10.  Attend and participate in staffing meetings, open house, and any function as requested, which may benefit the child or the program.
  11. Make referrals to the special education department for support services for children and/or families.
  12. Maintain confidentiality and respond to each family being served with dignity and respect.
  13. Follow all policies written in Southside School District Personnel Policy Handbook (located online at Southsideschools.org), Arkansas Minimum Licensing Requirements for Child Care Centers, and ECERS/ITERS regulations.
  14. Must be able to travel in and out of the area for training including overnight travel when deemed necessary by the Director.
  15. Must complete a minimum of thirty (30) PDR training hours for CDA or AA teachers.
  16. Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing when representing Southside Preschool.
  17. Performs other duties as assigned by the director.
