Southern is Hiring a Superintendent, Construction Near Ball, GA

Job Summary:

This position oversees all construction-related activities associated with distribution and service installations and revision activities. The incumbent in this role manages Supervisors and Inspectors who oversees and supports the execution of gas utility infrastructure, while delivering financial and operating objectives. This person drives quality and safety expectations and ensures that those standards are met within a functional or regional area.

Functional Expertise:

  • Oversees construction of underground gas utility infrastructure for residential, commercial, and industrial properties

  • Assigns work to company or contractor field resources to optimize overall cost and schedule of completion within a functional or regional area

  • Reviews and approves complex work orders, proposed field changes and/or invoices in accordance with authorization approval policies

  • Monitors budget and/or cost per unit variances within a functional or regional realm of responsibility and identifies exceptions/variances and appropriate corrective actions

  • Responds to emergency situations (where applicable) in a specific region during after hours

Business Acumen:

  • Provides vision and direction for Inspectors, and Construction Support personnel within a functional or regional area of responsibility

  • Analyzes costs and benefits for alternative construction policies and opportunities to maximize cost efficiencies

  • Assists in preparing the annual capital and operating expense budgets, monitors actual cost results, provides variance explanations, and implements cost control within a functional and/or geographical area

  • Provide periodic review of Contractor training sessions.

Engagement:

  • Manages staff selection, development, and retention across a large geographic area

  • Responsible for enhancing performance of construction staff through training, motivation, development, and performance coaching.

  • Interprets numerous pipeline contracts to effectively leverage and negotiate the application of contractual items with external service providers

  • Leads dialogue for elevated/high visibility issue customers, municipalities and other governmental agencies throughout the project as required (such as state DOT's, Counties, etc.)

  • Instill corporate values and personal responsibility into construction staff

  • Influences external contractor leaders who represent the company by shadowing corporate values

Driving Results:

  • Oversees employees who perform inspection of Gas Utility Infrastructure Construction

  • Establishes and monitors work goals and objectives. Measures employee performance and sets safety, quality, and productivity metrics

  • Drives Change and coaches' staff, provides feedback and evaluates performance

  • Creates and/or implements improved processes and techniques to enhance operating environment

  • Periodic review of employee training needs and monthly reviews of compliance training reports.

  • Address contractor deficiencies head on and work with contractors to develop and monitor corrective action plans.

Qualification

Education, Certifications/Licenses:

Required :

  • HS Diploma

  • Valid Driver's License

Preferred:

  • BA/BS degree in Engineering, Construction Management or equivalent

Related Work Experience:

Required:

  • Minimum 5-years' experience in Engineering and/or Construction

Preferred:

  • Minimum 5-years natural gas Construction Operations experience, or

  • Min 7-years natural gas Distribution Operations experience

Applicant may possess a combination of equivalent education and work experience.

Specific Skills & Knowledge

Required:

  • Minimum 2-years supervisory experience

  • Geographic Information System (GIS) or comparable system

  • Oracle Financials

  • MS Excel, Word, Power Point and Project

Preferred:

  • Project management experience in Construction or related field

  • CAD experience

  • Weld instruction experience or training

  • Intermediate knowledge of Local and State Environmental Regulations

  • Intermediate knowledge of CFR 49, Part 192 Regulations

  • Intermediate knowledge of Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) regulations

  • Intermediate proficiency with Work Management System (WMS) or comparable system

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift 40 lbs at a time

  • Climbing up and down ladders (into excavations/manholes)

  • Walking construction sites with changing elevation

  • Excessive driving up to six (6) hours at a time

  • Potential for occasional overnight travel
