Southern is Hiring a Security Analyst Near Gulfport, MS

This position is responsible for risk assessment required to adequately convey and remediate security risks and support the design, installation, and maintenance of security systems at company facilities and assets such as access control, video surveillance, various alarming systems (burglar, fire, panic, etc.) and researching aspects of emerging and advanced technologies in the space.

Assist with basic administration and maintenance of physical security equipment in facilities across the company footprint including video systems, cameras, and access control systems and support lead security analyst and security staff through all stages of planning, analysis, design, construction, implementation, testing, programing, and system monitoring. Be primary responsible for the operation and distribution of access badge system.

This position will handle all access card responsibilities including monitoring a 2 nd inbox for badge/clearance requests, updating/editing the Business Continuity Plan, mobile CCTV unit deployment, creating NTID’s for all contractors, assist/coordinate all security meetings, updating the reported arrest spreadsheet, working the daily audit and SHIPS reports, creating job aids for training of employees/guards/contractors and overseeing the training/updates on all security software i.e. Informacast.

This position will also be primary responsible for all records management for the security department, ordering all supplies/materials for security, restocking of the security conference room, and responsible for the security calendar/SharePoint site.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Two-year degree (college/technical/vocational) or equivalent experience in computer science, business management, electronics, telecommunications, or a related field.

Three to five years of prior experience related to electronic security, risk assessment, data or physical security, information technology, facilities management, and/or consulting opportunities with a law enforcement agency, the military, corporate security, or a security integrator is required.

Valid state driver’s license is required.

Ability to design, implement and oversee fully integrated electronic security strategies, programs and procedures that control access to physical security perimeters, protect personnel, physical assets, compliance data, proprietary and/or restricted information, physical and other assets and assist with managing the third-party security guard relationships per contractual agreement including daily staff performance, updating of post orders, ad-hoc staffing requests, and tracking budgetary costs.

  • Managing the creation/update of site Post Orders as the security guard procedure manual

  • Serving as an escalation point for any security events involving those security guards

  • Training the “trainer” or security guards in security procedures for the site

Ability to develop action plans to mitigate physical security risk through working knowledge of electronic security hardware and software systems including but not limited to Software House C*Cure access control and Avigilon Control Center video management system including end point cameras including monitoring and experience supporting physical security technologies, including.

Assist with facilities, business units, and information security to ensure cohesive security plans, coordinate audit and compliance efforts, identify and control risks of blended physical and cyber-attacks, and respond to and resolve complex technical computer hardware, and software, and network communication performance failures.

Manage and support multiple physical security maintenance activities across Southern Company such as access control servers and controllers including readers, low voltage wiring, access credentials, gates, doors, and turnstiles to ensure repairs are completed in a timely manner and at a reasonable cost. Review and process vendor invoices according to the accounts payable procedures.

Analyze business facility security processes with a strong focus on teamwork and building strong relationships with customers, suppliers, and other technology work groups to identify and mitigate against vulnerabilities and threats and counsel business units on potential consequences.

Possess a broad-based, working knowledge of network infrastructure and physical security technologies, tools, procedures, best practices and how they relate to the organization, good understanding of the Windows Operating System.

Ability to coordinate and liaison with corporate and private sector information technology experts to diagnose problems, restore operations quickly, benchmark with counterparts in other companies and industry organizations, like the American Gas Association, EEI, etc. to ensure Corporate Security’s prevention and mitigation programs reflect best practice and to identify emerging.

Leverage effective communication skills and ability to build effective working relationships to manage physical security projects from initiation to implementation to ensure completion according to the project schedule and at a fair price.

Demonstrate strong ethics and discretion in handling sensitive or confidential information, to include security assistance requests as required.

Excellent interpersonal, written, verbal communication skills and customer service.

Experience presenting before large internal or external audiences helpful.

Able to build trust, consider others’ perspectives, maintain engagement, and communicate candidly and effectively in a timely manner, audit business unit security activities to ensure compliance with all corporate physical security policies, standards, and procedures.

Leverage good conflict resolution / collaboration and negotiation skills to build and maintain strong relationships with peers, management, Shared Services teams, vendors, and business unit groups.

MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leverage ability to act as a group leader and provide strategic direction and planning for best practices and implementation of initiatives for physical access control systems and video surveillance systems, physical security surveys for company facilities and personnel, and assists in the development and implementation of plans for state, local, and federal security guidance, and regulatory compliance.

Recognizes opportunities to improve the performance and operation of the physical access control systems and video surveillance systems and recommends security program updates as necessary to adapt to the changing threats as well as local, state, and federal security requirements.

Able to respond and assist with preparedness and response drills, (i.e., personnel training, drills and exercises, personnel surety) and emergencies impacting access control systems and video management systems. Support upgrades to access control and video management hardware and software systems.

Provides consultation, electronic security analysis, recommendations, budgetary estimates to customers as directed by lead security analyst and security management to positively impact the Company’s bottom line.

Ensure that all security hardware and software systems are protected from any internal or external unauthorized access and engages with operating, storage, regulatory, engineering, HR (Human Resources), legal, and training units to evaluate and implement security processes for critical infrastructure and key resources.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including vendors, responsible for physical security systems and the security of company assets, other Corporate Security team members, external security integrators and contractors, and other business units to effectively implement physical security solutions to ensure the physical security of the site, site personnel, and company assets.

As required, create, and distribute badges and provision access clearances as appropriate. This includes monitoring a 2 nd inbox just for badge requests.

Assist with managing vendor relationships and reviewing/processing vendor invoices to ensure adherence to established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, to promote compliance, standardization quality assurance (i.e., badging, and other Corporate Security functions).

Possess a broad-based knowledge of information technology methodologies, tools, technologies, and best practices and how they relate to the organization to provide customer training on the operations and use of electronic security systems.

Ability to understand technical information about security issues/concepts and bring to senior management an understandable manner to ensure excellent customer service to internal and external customers.

Perform additional duties such as: updating/editing the Business Continuity Plan, mobile CCTV unit deployment, creating NTID’s for all contractors, primary responsible for all records management for the Security Dept., assisting/coordinating all of security meetings, 1 st floor Safety Captain, ordering all supplies/materials for Security, restocking the Security conference room, responsible for the security conference room calendar/SharePoint, overseeing the training and updates to Informacast, updating the reported arrest spreadsheet, working the daily audit/SHIPS report, and creating job aids for training of employees/guards/contractors.

Because this position involves physical security regulatory compliance duties, it requires operating company specific familiarity with designated federal security regulations (Electric… This position has been identified as a NERC/CIP position - Prior to being hired, the successful candidate must pass a Personnel Risk Assessment (PRA) or Background Investigation. Once hired, the candidate must complete the Southern Company NERC (North American Electric Reliability Council ) CIP (Critical Infrastructure Protection) Security Training prior to gaining un-escorted access to assigned work location and performing necessary job duties / Gas - familiarity with the physical security requirements of the Department of Homeland Security Chemical Facilities Anti-Terrorism Standards (CFATS), Transportation Security Administration Pipeline Security Guidelines (TSA (Transportation Security Administration) PSG), and the Maritime MTSA (Maritime Transportation Security Act) (Maritime Transportation Security Act of 2002 – (MTSA)

This position requires frequent (up to 20%) travel to office locations. Overnight travel is expected.
