Job Summary:
The purpose of this position is to lead and manage SCG’s Remittance Operations – responsible for successfully processing approximately 7 million lockbox payments annually across the enterprise. This manager is also responsible for managing electronic payments from various payment vendors and financial institutions. This role has peer positions within the Southern Company family at both GPC and APC. The manager leads a department of 15 management and clerical staff (with 2 direct reports) who ensure same/next day payment posting levels – including ongoing processing of return payment processing, unpostable payments, LiHeap and other energy assistance grant posting and document management activities. This role also has responsibility for managing all payment initiatives/projects and for providing expertise on payment compliance.
Job Responsibilities
Functional Expertise:
-Delivering results through expertise in remittance processing – business process and technical experience
-Strong production operational leadership – staff management, remittance equipment processing and systems administration
-Knowledge and management of payment/cash processing, accounting, compliance – cash posting management, payment reversal processing, multi-company payment process segregation
-Effectively troubleshoot and resolve remittance application and equipment issues
-In-depth knowledge of customer billing and payment and related systems
-Experience with NACHA ACH and PCI regulations
Business Acumen:
-Ability to effectively manage/lead a team of management and clerical staff in a remittance processing center / production operation (15 resources)
-Experience and expertise in the payment processing industry – including compliance
-Strong project management leadership and implementation knowledge and experience
-Vendor management acumen across systems, equipment and business processes – contract review and negotiation and vendor relationship management.

-Strong performance management and leadership to drive to same/next day processing of all mailed payments.

-Strategic expansion of the processing equipment into managing document imaging and delivery for other departments.
Qualifications
Education, Certifications/Licenses:
Required: BS or BA – Business-related discipline (i.e. Accounting, Finance, etc.) or equivalent work experience
Preferred: Equivalent work experience
Related Work Experience:
Required: 5-7 years of remittance processing supervision/leadership experience and/or utility company experience in production or operation supervision/leadership roles
Preferred: at least 3-5 years of remittance processing supervision/leadership experience and/or utility company experience in production or operation supervision/leadership roles
Applicant may possess a combination of equivalent education and/or work experience.
