Southern is Hiring an Engineering Supervisor Near Alpharetta, GA

The Engineering Supervisor (ES) is responsible for providing the overall leadership and direction for the engineering teams.

Location: Wills Rd Operating HQs | Alpharetta DA, 11675 Wills Rd. , Alpharetta, GA 30009

Territory Covered: Successful Candidate/s must live within commutable distance to the OPHQ.

Please note that this job/s will require 25% travel.

Relocation benefits are available for this position/s if needed.

Job Responsibilities

Leadership expectations and responsibilities include exhibiting behaviors in alignment with the Southern Company “Our Values”, Safety First, Intentional Inclusion, Act with Integrity, and Superior Performance. ES will lead the engineering team in a Safety Excellence environment with a focus on learning as well as implementation of the STEP observation tools. The ES will have accountability to ensure a culture within the team that is inclusive, builds trust and is continuously improving. This includes ownership of our Diversity and Inclusion efforts as well as leadership in continuing to advance our Southern Company “Ensuring Equity” plans. Development of the team members as well as communications within the team are key responsibilities for the ES. The ES will provide leadership and guidance for planning, engineering, design, and construction of all activities in the area and will help monitor and guide area-wide Distribution functional budgets, compliance, and system maintenance to ensure reliability. This includes investigating extended or significant outages as well as timely addressing customer issues that arise. The ES will provide performance management as well as leadership and guidance in dealing with customer issues (internal and external). This position will work closely with the other functional departments in the area to deliver best in class, customer value, reliability and cost as well as supporting external community activities. The ES will also serve as the SERP Operations Director and will be required to participate in SERP events across the Southern System and events off system as required.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field is strongly preferred.

Experience

  • Proven leadership abilities and commitment to Safety Excellence.

  • Formal leadership experience is required

  • Proven record of dealing effectively with customers

  • Influencer and champion for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion through words and actions

  • A minimum of 5 years Power Delivery experience preferred

  • Cross-functional, cross-company experience is a plus

  • Experience managing capital and O&M budgets is a plus

  • Experience with storm response and planning is preferred

  • Experience with TCMS, ARCOS, JETS, CSS, ARMS, or DISTIEW is a plus

  • Travel is sometimes required.

  • Must live in/near or be willing to relocate within reasonable distance to Athens.
